A banjo ukulele formerly owned by George Harrison is being auctioned in Switzerland on July 9. One of a line of George Formby signature models offered by British banjo maker John E. Dallas, the uke is a Special Model E made for the endorser himself, a singer/performer in the 1930s. Sporting engraved pearl inlays and gold-plated metal parts, Formby played the instrument throughout his career and was often pictured with it. Harrison, an avid ukulele collector/player – and member of the George Formby Society – acquired the uke after the crooner’s death, and eventually returned it to the family.
