Renowned blues guitarist Eddie Kirkland "Gypsy of the Blues" was killed Sunday morning after his car collided with a bus in Florida.
The 88-year-old Kirkland was born in Jamaica and raised in Alabama. He recorded and toured with John Lee Hooker for several years and was the former band leader for Otis Redding.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Kirkland attempted to make a u-turn in front of the bus at the intersection of U.S. 98 and Oak Park Boulevard in Homosassa.
Kirkland was flown to a nearby hospital but died a short time later. The bus driver and 13 passengers on board were not injured.
