Ronnie Montrose Passes

Ronnie Montrose, renowned rock guitarist and founder of the band that bore his name, died March 3 in his home in California. He was 64 and had been battling prostate cancer and other ailments.

Montrose assembled his group in 1973, with Sammy Hagar as vocalist. The group recorded several noteworthy albums and songs, including classic-rock mainstays like “Rock Candy” and “Bad Motor Scooter.” Throughout his careeer, Montrose performed other notable musicians, including Edgar Winter, Van Morrison, Boz Scaggs, and Herbie Hancock. At the time of his passing, Montrose was set to release a DVD and tour the U.S.

He is survived by a daughter and five grandchildren.
