Jason Jordan – Genuine Vinyl

It seems new really good Tele players keep poppin’ up. Here’s another one. Jason doesn’t waste any time, getting going with the opener, “Picky, Picky, Picky.” It’s a medium-tempo country tune with cool bends, great chickin’ pickin’, and the occasional dazzling run. And he never lets up. If you think a Tele can’t have a nice, deep, rockin’ tone, check out “Doghouse,” where thick tones turn into killer country bends and very cool open-string hammer-ons.

He does a nice turn on one of my favorite country rockers ever; he calls it “Almost Amos,” but it’s really just a variation on Jerry Reed’s crossover 1972 hit, “Amos Moses.” Never has the bridge between funk and country been so close than on that tune. You get the idea. Jason cooks. “Soul Miner” has one of those solos that will first make you smile and then gulp. And the solos on “Rollin’ In My Sweet Baby’s Arms” are all numerous and great. Chops galore with lots of imagination.

This is one that’s easy to recommend. Especially if you’re a Tele freak. Not a wasted track or note on the entire CD.
