Steve Vai

The Musicians Foundation has announced the Steve Vai Guitar Scholarship, made possible by Vai through his Make a Noise Foundation.  The scholarship will be awarded this fall to a student enrolled in Musicians Institute’s Associate of Arts in Performance Program guitar track who demonstrates both outstanding overall musicianship and the potential for developing a unique voice on the instrument.

“A formal music education can completely change an aspiring musician’s creative overview. Understanding the language of music can expand their musical vocabulary and offer the ability to ‘dimensionalize’ their vision,” said Vai.  “Surrounding yourself with other musicians and sharing the experience of creating music in a complete artistic environment is perhaps the most valuable education for any young musician.”

Founded with Ruta Sepetys in 1998, Vai’s Make a Noise Foundation was established to provide musical instruments and music education to young musicians who cannot afford them.  He continues to support developing talent through the new Steve Vai Guitar Scholarship.

Vai has sold more than 15 million albums and garnered three Grammy awards.  In addition to 15 solo albums, he has toured and recorded with Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake.  Vai will release his 16th solo album, The Story of Light, on August 14.
