Traveling Wilburys Book

The Traveling Wilburys was not a carefully planned band, not formed from deep premeditation. Rather, the band was created in a casual blending of genuine friends one ordinary afternoon, which turned out to be anything but ordinary.

Genesis Publications proudly celebrates this supergroup of friends featuring George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Roy Orbison with the release of the extraordinary, limited edition book <em>The Traveling Wilburys</em>. This 144 page, hand-bound collectible book features unseen photographs, Polaroids, drawings, log book entries and handwritten lyrics.

"George said to me, 'We should have a group, me and you.' I said, 'Great, who would we have in it?' He said, 'Well, I'll have Bob Dylan.' I said, 'Can we have Roy Orbison?' We thought Tom Petty would be a great member of the group too; luckily so did Tom." Jeff Lynne, from his foreword to the book.

The photographs, many by the Wilburys themselves, plus handwritten, often unfinished lyric sheets run throughout the book. Song arrangements, notes and sketches, many of which are hand-pasted onto and between the pages as individual reproductions, are also included in the publication. This unique book has been many years in the making. The result is an inside look at how five of the greatest singers, songwriters, musicians and friends joined together in a series of kitchens and living rooms to write two albums of unforgettable songs.

"It really had very little to do with combining a bunch of famous people, it was a bunch of friends that just happened to be really good at making music." Tom Petty

The <em>Traveling Wilburys</em> is a fine-bound book published in a numbered, limited edition of 3,000 copies, each hand-signed by Jeff Lynne and presented in a cloth-bound slipcase. Each book is accompanied with a uniquely numbered lithograph of the lyrics to "Handle With Care," handwritten by George Harrison and available exclusively with the book.

Coco Montoya CD Slated for March 9

Ruf Records announces a March 9 release date for <em>I Want It All Back</em>, the new release from acclaimed blues guitarist, Coco Montoya, distributed in the U.S. by the Allegro Corporation. Produced by Keb' Mo' and Jeff Paris,<em> I Want It All Back</em> showcases Montoya in his most innovative setting thus far, tapping into his roots of blues, soul, rock, rhythm and blues and doo wop, while showcasing a soulful, passionate vocal sound that will serve as a revelation to those who only know him for his guitar prowess.

"People know where I'm at with the guitar, but here the vocals are being concentrated on," said Coco about the new album. "There will certainly be guitar, but the focus has been on song structure and my vocals. I think it's healthy to take chances. It's being able to humble myself and take direction and guidance. As co-producers, Keb' and Jeff have been working extensively with my vocals. I'm very proud of the performance they're getting outta me."

The producers assembled a cast of stellar musicians to back Montoya on <em>I Want It All Back</em>, including a core all-star rhythm section of Reggie McBride (Keb' Mo, Stevie Wonder, B.B. King) on bass and Stephen Ferrone (Average White Band, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty) on drums, with Keb' Mo' adding rhythm guitar and Jeff Paris playing keyboards. Rod Piazza on harmonica and "Miss Honey" Alexander on piano are special guests on a torrid cover of the Buster Brown classic, "Fannie Mae." Other song highlights of the new CD include the Motown sound of "Forever" (originally done by the Marvelettes) and The One Who Really Loves You" (Mary Wells' hit); the soulful "Cry Lonely," and "As Close As I Have Come," both co-written by award-winning songwriter Gary Nicholson; a modern take on Jackson Browne's "Somebody's Baby;" and a funky cover of The Penguins' doo-wop classic, "Hey Senorita."

Born and raised in Southern California, Montoya grew up listening to a wide variety of music. His first blues apprenticeship came when he joined the band of blues legend Albert Collins as his drummer. After picking up the guitar, Montoya soaked up all the intensity, emotion and soul he could from playing with a blues master such as Collins. He later spent an extensive stint with another mentor, the great John Mayall, with whom he recorded three albums, before leaving to go solo.

Montoya released three critically acclaimed albums with Blind Pig Records in the '90s and was voted Best New Artist by the Blues Foundation in 1996. In 2000, he signed with Alligator Records, releasing three more albums that continued to build his reputation as one of the most exciting contemporary blues guitarists in the world.

Wariner Wins Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance

Award-winning recording artist, songwriter and guitarist Steve Wariner won the Grammy for Best Country Instrumental Performance with "Producer's Medley" from <em>Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins</em> at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards.

Produced by Wariner, the album honors the legendary guitarist and producer who was also his friend, mentor, producer and former employer. The abbreviation "c.g.p." stands for "Certified Guitar Player," a title that Atkins himself bestowed on only four guitar pickers: Tommy Emmanuel, John Knowles, the late Jerry Reed, and Wariner.

"Producer's Medley" features classic songs by artists Atkins produced, including "And I Love You So" by Perry Como; "Welcome to My World" by Jim Reeves; "The Three Bells" by The Browns; "I Can't Stop Loving You" by Don Gibson; "Java" by Al Hirt; "Let It Be Me" by the Everly Brothers; "End of the World" by Skeeter Davis; and "When You're Hot You're Hot" by Jerry Reed.

"I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the great Chet Atkins," said Wariner, as he accepted the award from presenters Colbie Caillat and Mick Fleetwood.

"Receiving this award means so much to me because it recognizes and honors Chet's genius. There is only one godfather of guitar, Mr. Chet Atkins. I'm so thankful to his daughter, Merle, to the late Leona Atkins and their entire family for their support and their blessing of this project."

This is the fourth Grammy Award Wariner has received, and his first as a solo performer and producer. He won in 1992 for Best Country Collaboration with Vocals, and in 2000 and 2009 for Best Country Instrumental Performance.

<em>Steve Wariner, c.g.p., My Tribute to Chet Atkins</em> was released on Wariner's own SelecTone Records and is distributed by Allegro Media Group. It was engineered, mixed and mastered by Randy Gardner. Every player on the album had worked with or was very close to Atkins.

Wariner arranged the tracks on <em>My Tribute to Chet Atkins</em> as a rough timeline of Atkins' life, taking the listener on a journey through the wide range of material he recorded-from his early days playing the mountain music of his native Luttrell, Tennessee, to swing, rockabilly, pop, folk and jazz. Wariner included his versions of some of the songs that Atkins recorded or performed--"Back Home Again in Indiana," "John Henry," "Blue Angel" and "Producer's Medley"-but the bulk of the album consists of original songs Steve wrote in the various styles that Atkins made famous.

While Wariner grew up listening to Atkins' music, it wasn't until he was 18 years old and playing bass in Dottie West's band that he met his musical idol during a tour of Europe that included several RCA artists. Atkins produced Wariner's first records at RCA Studio B, after guitarist Paul Yandell heard Wariner during a recording session for his then-boss, Bob Luman, and took a tape to Atkins. Following Luman's death, Atkins hired Wariner to play bass in his band. When Wariner scored his first top-10 hit with "Your Memory," Atkins promptly "fired" him, saying that he needed to embark on his own solo career.

During his career Wariner has charted over 30 top-10 singles, including 14 #1 hits. In 1998 he won the Country Music Association's Single and Song of the Year awards for his #1 hit, "Holes in the Floor of Heaven," which was also the Academy of Country Music's Song of the Year in 1999. He joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1996. As a songwriter he has earned 16 BMI Country Awards and 15 BMI Million-Air Awards (for songs receiving over one million on-air plays).

GC Offers Chance to Writer, Record with Slash

Continuing its support of aspiring artists, Guitar Center, the world's largest musical instrument retailer, today announced Guitar Center Presents Your Next Record with Slash a first-of-its-kind, unsigned band competition that provides emerging artists the chance to win the ultimate career-altering opportunity: record a 3-song EP with legendary producer, Mike Clink (Guns N' Roses, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth) and have Slash write, record and perform on the winning artists' single. Starting today, through April 30th, 2010 bands across the United States are invited to submit their music at YourNextRecord.com (www.yournextrecord.com) for a chance to win the aforementioned prize package, which also includes:

A management development deal with "The Collective" (Linkin Park, Slash, Avenged Sevenfold), distribution of winning artists' music through Tunecore, a $10,000 Guitar Center Shopping Spree, endorsement deals from Ernie Ball Music Man, and an opening slot on Slash's Monster Energy Bash.

"The formula that used to work for discovering new artists has been decimated and the opportunities for really talented bands to be heard is extremely limited," said Slash. "That's why it's so important to me and Guitar Center to provide a situation where new talent can be discovered. This is an incredibly interesting way to find and help launch a really great band that hasn't been able to get their foot in the door otherwise.

Guitar Center is also a primary partner of Ernie Ball's Shred with Slash promotion which offers musicians the chance to win over $50,000 in prizes, including a private master class with Slash, upon finding one of five custom, limited edition Slash guitar picks in select packs of Ernie Ball electric guitar strings sold exclusively at Guitar Center between February 1st and April 30th. Picks and corresponding prizes are as follows:

Gold Pick: (20 winners) A private 2-hour Master Class with Slash
Silver Pick: (10 winners): A custom Ernie Ball Music Man guitar or bass of winner's choice
Red Pick: (20 winners): A $500 Guitar Center shopping spree
Black Pick: (100 winners) Signed copy of Slash's new solo album
White Pick: (1,000 winners) Free pack of Ernie Ball electric guitar strings

The opportunity coincides with what will be Slash's first true solo album. Slash announced today his CD will release in April. The album features an all-star roster of guest musicians including Ian Astbury, Chris Cornell, Rocco DeLuca, Fergie, Dave Grohl, Myles Kennedy, Kid Rock, Lemmy Kilmeister, Adam Levine of Maroon 5, Duff McKagan, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Ozzy Osbourne, Iggy Pop, and Andrew Stockdale of Wolfmother. learn more at YourNextRecord.com.

Steve Earle's <em>Townes</em> Garners Grammy Win

Steve Earle was honored by the Recording Academy with a Grammy Award for his album, <em>Townes</em> (New West Records) in the Best Contemporary Folk Album category during their 52nd annual ceremony last night in Los Angeles. This honor marks Earle's third consecutive Grammy Award win (2004's <em>The Revolution Starts...Now</em> and 2008's <em>Washington Square Serenade</em> were both awarded the Grammy in the same category as well).

Speaking about <em>Townes</em>, Earle stated, "This may be one of the best records I've ever made. hat hurts a singer-songwriter's feelings. Then again, it's some consolation that I cherry picked through the career of one of the best songwriters that ever lived."

<em>Townes</em>, a 15-song set, is comprised of songs written by Earle's friend and mentor, the late singer-songwriter, Townes Van Zandt. The album debuted at number 19 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, the highest Top 200 debut in his career. Townes also debuted at #6 on the Billboard Country Chart. It garnered worldwide critical acclaim. Of the songs, <em>Rolling Stone</em> stated that Earle "...delivers them with the ease of breathing..." and in <em>Best Life</em> magazine, Anthony DeCurtis said the album is "beautiful and scarifying." <em>Townes</em> features guest appearances by Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine/Street Sweeper Social Club/The Nightwatchman), Earle's wife, singer-songwriter Allison Moorer, and his son, Justin Townes Earle.

Professor Louie Preps New CD

Woodstock Records and MVD Audio are proud to announce the CD release of Professor Louie &amp; The Crowmatix - <em>Whispering Pines</em> on March 9, 2010.

Many fans of the Rock 'n' Roll Hall Of Fame group The Band, are familiar with the name Professor Louie &amp; The Crowmatix, but not all fans are familiar with the group's authentic and original blend of roots, rock, country, and blues. As The Band's fan base continues to grow and as younger generations continue to discover them -- Professor Louie is producer, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Aaron Louis Hurwitz, who worked with The Band in a number of significant capacities in the second half of the '80's and throughout the '90's. Professor Louie is the name that Rick Danko bestowed on Hurwitz when they were performing together as a duo and the moniker stuck. Members of The Crowmatix also have a history of recording and performing with The Band and Dylan.

<em>Whispering Pines</em> is Professor Louie &amp; The Crowmatix seventh studio CD, whose title song is a beautiful rendition of (and touching homage to) The Band classic "Whispering Pines". This version is simply stunning and at times sounds like a lost track from the Beach Boys' classic <em>Pet Sounds</em> album, with its lush production values, layers and textures and has been gaining notoriety on youtube.

The CD features 10 songs from The Crowmatix' vast repertoire, including covers of two other Band classics, "The Weight" and "Ain't No More Cane". The big finish is the stunning International award winning original song "Melody of Peace" performed with The Prague Radio Symphony and Kuhn Choir and recorded in the Czech Republic with orchestral arrangement by Crowmatix members Burke, Miss Marie and Professor Louie.

<em>Whispering Pines</em> has Professor Louie handling the lion's share of the vocals as well as keyboards and accordion, Miss Marie singing and playing percussion, famed drummer Gary Burke, bassist Frank Campbell and guitarist Josh Colow rounding out the Woodstock band.

These days, Professor Louie &amp; the Crowmatix are busy both in the studio and on the road, performing over 100 shows a year building a following throughout the US, Canada and abroad.

Jakob Dylan Releases <em>Women and Country</em>

Jakob Dylan will release his sophomore solo album, <em>Women and Country</em>, on Columbia Records on April 6. Soulful yet striking and ripe with sublime beauty, <em>Women and Country</em> is the follow up to the artist's 2008 critically acclaimed debut, <em>Seeing Things</em>. This new collection finds him reuniting with acclaimed Grammy and Golden Globe winning producer T Bone Burnett (Robert Plant, Alison Krauss, Crazy Heart), who produced the Wallflowers' 1996 breakthrough album <em>Bringing Down the Horse</em>. On the release, Jakob is also joined by Neko Case and Kelly Hogan, who provide back-up vocals to 8 of the album's 11 tracks.

"I'm so happy to be collaborating with Jakob at this exciting and vital time in his life as an artist," said T Bone Burnett. "I think this new album is an important work from a great musician."

Recorded in Los Angeles, CA, <em>Women and Country</em> is the full realization of a journey Jakob Dylan began on his previous solo releaseSeeing Things, which hearkens back to the timeless artistry of American roots music and country blues masters. Seeing Thingsgarnered significant critical praise for Dylan including The Los Angeles Times who called him "a gifted storyteller" and USA Today who said the release was "an evocative acoustic album that reveals the poetic grace of his lyrics and the maturity and moving power of his voice." On Women and Country Jakob reaches new majestic heights with his voice and song-writing that are as distinct as. This, coupled with T Bone Burnett's haunting production and the stirringly rich vocals by Neko Case and Kelly Hogan, creates a powerful and melancholic experience for the listener.

Backing Dylan up on the album's 11 songs are T Bone Burnett's s acclaimed group of musicians including Dennis Crouch (bass), Jay Bellerose (drums), David Mansfield (fiddle &amp; mandolin), Marc Ribot (guitar), Keefus Ciancia (keyboards), Greg Leisz (pedal steel), Darrell Leonard (trumpet), Ira Nepus (trombone) and George Bohanon (horns).
Ziggy Marley Presents <em>Dancehall Originators, Vol. 1</em>

Multiple Grammy winning artist Ziggy Marley, and Tuff Gong Worldwide present <em>Dancehall Originators Vol 1</em>, the first in a new series of dancehall reggae albums designed to pay homage to the groundbreaking original artists that paved the way for dancehall artists today. The album, which will be released on February 2nd, features tracks by Chaka Demus, Yellow Man and Buju Banton, among others (track list below).

In 1992, producer/songwriter Phillip Smart, founder of Long Island's HC&amp;F Studios, created the scorching "Hot This Year" riddim, whose bouncy keyboard riffs and resounding bass were considered groundbreaking at the time.

From its initial release, "Hot This Year" inspired numerous other artists, including Shaggy, Yellow Man, Buju Banton, and Chaka Demus, to use it as a basis for their own songs. It also inspired the durable and popular song "Hot This Year" by the late DJ Dirtsman, which crossed over into other radio formats.

"There weren't that many reggae records that crossed over to R&amp;B radio at the time, and Dirtsman's song went from reggae radio shows to getting airplay in regular rotation on New York stations," recalls Phillip Smart. "So that put it in a different format and the song became a favorite in clubs that didn't play a lot of reggae."

Because it so deftly illustrates such an important era of dancehall reggae history, Dancehall Originators is a must-have for any knowledgeable dancehall devotee, as well as more recent reggae converts.

The Tuff Gong label was founded in 1965 by Bob Marley, with the vision of producing, distributing and promoting his music free from the constraints of corporate label politics. In a time decades before artist-owned record labels were commonplace, the legendary Bob Marley's vision was characteristically well ahead of its time. Now, nearly a half-century later, his dream is being realized.

GITC Supporters Find A Way To Fill A Need In South Florida

At the same time music education programs at schools throughout the United States are being reduced due to economic cut-backs, community support has allowed significant growth of Guitars In The Classroom's (GITC) innovative music integration programs at many locations around the country. One geographic area that has seen an unprecedented expansion of GITC fund-raising and instructional activity has been the state of Florida, where a high number of ELL (English Language Learners) and at-risk students has created a need for programs like GITC that increase students' positive feelings about school as well as their academic success.

The recent increase of grass roots support throughout Florida has allowed GITC to establish new music integration programs that will bring the benefits of music participation to students in Jacksonville, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Awareness and funding in these cities is being generated by local advocates and activists who are choosing to make a difference in their communities by helping Guitars in the Classroom provide crucial training to teachers.

Jessica Padron, a 24-year old resident of Miami and the founder of the south Florida online music magazine, Grunge Kat, worked day and night for weeks to launch the first of several awareness and fund-raising events for GITC. Dedicating her energies to securing, planning, promoting and staffing a music performance booth at the recent Miami Music Festival, Jessica was able to raise enough money to launch GITC's first teacher training program in Miami. Partnering with Jessica was Florida-based Luna Guitars and Yvonne deVilliers, who donated a beautiful, limited-edition, Henna Oasis Cedar acoustic guitar for silent auction.

"I created Grunge Kat Magazine to support the advancement of local musicians and also to raise awareness of the importance of education through music because I believe music is a key component in a child's healthy development both socially and mentally," says Jessica. "As an organization that combines music and education, GITC gave Grunge Kat an opportunity to support music integration and contribute to giving teachers the tools they need to introduce education through music to their students. I am extremely grateful to Jessica Baron and the entire GITC organization and look forward to our next event."

In another generous and astoundingly profound effort to support GITC, South Florida residents Al and Colleen Glass reached out to the organization after their adult son Alex passed away tragically in September, 2009. Honoring his passion for music and guitar, and the difference the instrument made in their son's life, the Glasses have contributed to GITC and asked all of Alex's friends and loved ones to do likewise. Through this concerted effort the family has raised enough funds to support GITC programs in multiple locations while also creating a living legacy for Alex and assuring that his five-year old son Connor, along with thousands of other youngsters, will share his father's love of music every day through GITC's classroom music programs.

Guitars In The Classroom is a non-profit organization that provides innovative musical training for classroom teachers so all students can experience the joy and essential benefits of making music. Its programs deliver ongoing instruction, access to instruments, and educational materials that weave music across the academic curriculum in sustainable, grassroots programs, nationwide. Other performers include Olivia Chaney, Jackie Oates, Trembling Bells and Gadarene.

Seasick Steve Joins Springsteen for Best International Male Nominee at Brit Awards

Seasick Steve received his second ever Brit Award nomination Monday night in London, UK for Best International Male Solo Artist. He finds himself in amazing A-list company with Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Jay-Z, and Michael Buble being the other four nominees in the category. The Brit Awards will take place on February 16 at Earls Court in London.

Ryko will be releasing Seasick Steve's latest album: <em>Man From Another Time</em> on March 30, 2010 here in the U.S. The tale of Seasick Steve is that of an anomaly in modern recorded music - signed in his 60's, the US-born musician came to see a platinum-selling album in the UK, become the oldest Brit Award nominee in history and the winner of Mojo's Best Breakthrough Act.

Seasick Steve's "sudden" career rise started in 2006 after a UK television appearance on Jools Holland's 'Annual Hootenanny' BBC TV show. His electrifying performance immediately propelled him into the UK public's consciousness. As his star rose, crowds flocked to his live events worldwide, including in a sold-out performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, and appearances such at festivals such as: UK Reading, Leeds, Glastonbury (UK), Coachella, All Points West (U.S.) and Fuji Rock Festival (Japan).

"Every time I walk out in front of these thousands of people, I think 'Goddamn, how can someone who's not young, and didn't used to be famous already have all this success out of the blue?" Seasick Steve remarked. "My belief is I've come at the right time. People are tired of everythin' bein' so fancy. I guess they kinda like hearin' me with an acoustic guitar stompin' on a box."

Born in Oakland, CA, Seasick Steve ran away from home at age of 13. He spent his adolescence living rough, grabbing work where an underage labourer could find it. By 16, he was busking and starting to become the musician that close to fifty years later immerged as Seasick Steve. Through this journey, his feet took him through Europe, back to the U.S., and then ultimately back overseas.

While living in the Pacific-Northwest, he opened a small studio in Olympia producing albums for acts as diverse as Bikini Kill and Modest Mouse, and found some success in the Washington music scene. In 2001, at the insistence of his wife, he returned to Oslo with his three sons (he has five children). In 2003, he recorded his first album under the moniker Seasick Steve, titled <em>Cheap</em>; which began to establish a foothold in the UK for him.

With momentum in hand, devastation struck when in 2004 he suffered a heart attack. While home and finding a way of life he could sustain post-heart attack, his wife pressed him to start recording on his 4-track. Those sessions would become the 2006 release, Dog House Music; which was independently released on the Bronzerat label (200,000+ copies sold). His follow up album, <em>I Started Out With Nothin' And I Still Got Most Of It Left</em>, found Seasick Steve landing his first platinum album and critical success overseas.

Devo to Perform at Winter Olympics

Devo, one of post modern rock's most visionary and influential bands, have been invited to perform live at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver on Feb 22, 2010. This performance will conclude a Victory Ceremony and will be broadcast live on NBC Networks. It's your duty as citizens of the earth to tune in, watch, listen and learn.

This exclusive appearance comes in anticipation of the band's first studio album in nearly 20 years. With an estimated 3 billion worldwide television viewers, this is probably Devo's biggest single event audience and one of many future opportunities to expose their music, knowledge and message to the world. Devo will perform old favorites as well as future favorites from the upcoming album.

The announcement of Devo completes the lineup of 15 top North American headline acts for the Whistler Victory Ceremonies, which also includes Feist, Usher, Our Lady Peace, and The Fray. Each act will perform for one night from February 13 to 27 during the Games at Whistler Medals Plaza. For more information on the lineup, visit www.vancouver2010.com.

This news follows the announcement last year that Devo have signed a unique, ground-breaking worldwide partnership with their original label home Warner Bros. Records that exhibits the band's long-time commitment to innovation in all aspects of their career.
>
> And now, the fine print: Formed in Akron, OH in 1974 as a multi-media experiment, DEVO caught the attention of such pop music luminaries as Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Neil Young, as well as an equally curious and loyal fan base whose support led to a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records. The label released the Brian Eno-produced <em>Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!</em> in 1978 and suddenly the world, for all intents and purposes, was now both round and flat. <em>Duty Now for the Future</em> followed in 1979. In 1980, DEVO released its commercial breakthrough album <em>Freedom of Choice</em>, which featured the timeless Top 20 hit "Whip It." Rounder and flatter than ever, <em>New Traditionalists</em> came next in 1981, 1982's <em>Oh, No! It's Devo</em>, and 1984's <em>Shout</em>, its last album for Warner Bros. Records. After releasing 1988's <em>Total Devo</em> and 1990's <em>Smooth Noodle Maps</em> on Enigma Records, the band went on hiatus.

Now original members Gerald Casale, Bob Casale, Mark Mothersbaugh, and Bob Mothersbaugh are joined by drummer Josh Freese (Nine Inch Nails, Weezer, Guns N' Roses) and are currently activating massive scale maneuvers to be unveiled at the appropriate time and place. De-evolution 2010 will include the release of new musical adventures and recordings (featuring an eclectic cast of producers and collaborators), international festival appearances, and a proper tour of North America, Europe, Japan, Australia, and South America.

Gibson's James "Hutch" Hutchins Passes

One of Gibson Guitar's most accomplished and dedicated luthiers, James "Hutch" Hutchins, who spent 45 years at Gibson, passed away from an undisclosed illness surrounded by his family last evening. "Hutch" as many of his Gibson friends called him, had a a career that's spanned two states, three changes of ownership, and thousands of priceless Gibson guitars. Hutch began his career in the original Kalamazoo, Michigan plant, making a name for himself there before transferring to Nashville in 1983. He had worked every job from maintenance to pattern making with an unflinching attention to detail and an abiding pride in the Gibson name. "Hutch" chose the Gibson family as his own often defining the company's legacy, heritage and tradition by the many guitars and people he touched on a daily basis. He was 72.

Many a times while he walked the Gibson plant floors he would tell his fellow workers of his clear recollection of the day he was hired by Gibson on March 25, 1963. While working as a cab driver in Kalamazoo, Hutch stopped by Checker Cab to pick up his paycheck one afternoon, and spotted the Gibson smokestack billowing across the way. He said to his wife 'I wonder what they do," and the rest soon became history.

Though he didn't play guitar Hutch was a well-trained machinist. His first interview for employment at Gibson was with Julius Bellson and Ted McCarty., two of Gibson's most legendary executives, known for heading the company during the years that Gibson produced the Les Paul, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, and the humbucker.

On his first day at Gibson in 1963, Hutch was assigned a work station nine benches down from "the senior guy at the front of the line, who had been there over 39 years." He couldn't have imagined then that his own longevity at the company would eventually surpass his boss'. Hutch often recalled the close-knit Gibson team that connected inside of work and out-on bowling teams, canoeing trips, and get-togethers that still exists today. Musical members of the staff even formed a couple bands, among them the venerable Green Valley Boys, fronted by Ron Allers, who worked for Gibson for 26 years.

During a part of Hutch's tenure, Gibson was owned by the Chicago Musical Instrument Company, which acquired Gibson in early 1944. At the time there were nearly 1,000 employees stationed in several large plants in Kalamazoo but out of the 1,000 no one stood out more than "Hutch." His longtime dedication would have him working double shifts, six days a week and always with a smile.

Blessed with the esteem of McCarty and Bellson, Hutch became the plant's liaison for legendary artists who wanted custom guitars. He was integral to designing the Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, becoming friends with Atkins in the process. "Chet, I'll build you whatever you want. You tell me what you want, and we'll go from there'," said Hutch recently. "I think that was the part that really hooked Chet on coming to Gibson-that we were willing to do whatever he wanted, much like we tried to do everyday." Disenchanted after a partnership with Gretsch, Atkins met with Hutch over many a lingering lunch to determine the specs for the great Gibson signature model. During his tenure at Kalamazoo, Hutch saw the Atkins guitars through from design into their production in 1982. Over the years, Hutch also worked closely with archtop jazz giants like Howard Roberts, Johnny Smith, Wes Montgomery, and Herb Ellis to name a few.

In the meantime, CMI merged with Ecuadorian brewery ECI to form Norlin in 1969. Gibson's new ownership signaled the beginning of a dark period in company history. "Norlin didn't put anything in, just took everything out," Hutch once said. "All they were after was money." As the production naturally slowed, Hutch's commitment to the company went unrattled. Over the years Hutch would spread the word of Gibson's newfound dedication and commitment to quality when it was purchased in 1986 from Norlin by now Gibson CEO and Chairman Henry Juszkiewicz, Gibson President Dave Berryman, and Gary Zebrowski. Juszkiewicz rolled up his sleeves, and through hard work and determination, was able to restore the company to a position of unrivaled prominence in the industry. "Hutch was a remarkable man, with a talent all his own, said Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO and Chairman of Gibson Guitar. "His light will shine forever through every corner, every hall and with every team member of the company. His legacy will live on."

Hutch was quoted in an interview a few years back as stating "Henry put every penny right back into it. This company didn't grow by not putting a lot back in. Fortunately, when Henry bought Gibson he believed in the company and what it was going to take, which was the best people and the best wood. He said to me, 'What do you need?,' and I said, 'Well, we need help,' and Henry said, 'Get 'em, and hire the best you can, So I did."

Hutch's dedication and newfound leadership in management from the new owners fostered a rebuilt Gibson with a highly skilled team and ramped up its production numbers. "Hutch" took great pride in showing anyone who would listen the carving instruments that were dated back to the turn of century yet still used to create some of the world's best guitars. He took great pride in the product and his Gibson family. He never let the word "family" go away in anything he did. Hutch retired March 31, 2008.

"Hutch" loved to hunt and fish and spend time with his three grown sons, all of whom live in the Nashville area. He is survived by his wife Gail, sons Kim and Todd and grandsons Aaron and Jaimie. Many of Gibson team members and people across the industry agree that his contribution to the Gibson Guitar company was so incredible that it will take years to truly indentify all the ways he influenced it.

One can only imagine the depth of meaning in a recent quote Hutchins himself stated: "You've got to have pride. If you don't have pride in what you're doing, it's not going to come out at the end of the line. Ain't nobody ever gonna knock this name off," he said, tapping the headstock of a nearby Custom Shop Les Paul. "I don't know how much longer I'll be around, but I know Gibson, and I know that's a name that can't be beat."

Scorpions Slate Final Album/Tour

After the release of their new album, <em>Sting in the Tail</em> (set for release March 23) and a planned three-year tour across five continents, the Scorpions will be ending their career.

"While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was - and how much fun we were still having, in the process," said Klaus Meine. "We want to end the Scorpion's extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely gracious for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we've always had since the beginning." "So at some point," added guitarist Matthias Jabs, "it came to us to end our career with this exceptional album." Rudolf Schenker stated, "The three year tour through five continents is meant to be a huge blowout, where we can party with our fans and say good-bye." "When I started out, I had a lot of wishes," Schenker noted. "It's crazy, I achieved more than I ever even dreamed of."

During their 40-year career, Scorpion sold more than 100 million albums and received many awards, such as the World Music Award and several Echos--the German comparison to the Grammy. Today they still play sold-out venues around the world. Not long ago, 152,000 South Americans came to 15 band's concerts between Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City. Their song "Wind of Change" has become an anthem for the fall of the Iron Curtain.

The tour will launch in Germany, then hit North America and continue worldwide until 2012.

Rod Stewart Lost Album Available

<em>If ONCE IN A BLUE MOON</em> hasn't exactly been the Holy Grail for the Rod Stewart faithful, it's only because they didn't know what they were missing - until now. Recorded in the summer of 1992 with producer Trevor Horn, this unique collection of covers captures Stewart at his interpretive best - his magnificent voice yearning, pleading and shouting in all its gravelly glory through a superb selection of songs.

<em>ONCE IN A BLUE MOON - THE LOST ALBUM</em> is available now exclusively from www.rhino.com. Reminiscent of the year when it was originally slated for release, the CD comes packaged in a vintage long box.

While each of the album's 10 songs were previously released in various countries in different mixes, six have never been available in the U.S. in any form until now. To celebrate the long-overdue release of this lost classic, the CD contains two hidden tracks - both unreleased - recorded during the album's sessions. Together, they form an exciting whole that places <em>BLUE MOON</em> squarely in the upper reaches of Stewart's classic catalog.

Stewart opens album with a majestic reading - complete with soaring orchestration - of The Rolling Stones' 1967 #1 smash "Ruby Tuesday" before shifting into a driving interpretation of the Bob Dylan b-side, "The Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar." The collection also features the singer's take on the 1983 Stevie Nicks' classic (co-written by Prince) "Stand Back." It's worth noting that a trio of tracks on <em>BLUE MOON</em> - "Windy Town," "The Downtown Lights" and "This" - eventually appeared as key songs on Stewart's 1995 album <em>A Spanner In The Works</em>.

Prior to the album's scheduled release in late 1992, an edited version of Stewart singing the Tom Waits favorite "Tom Traubert's Blues" was released in the U.K., peaking at #6 on the British Singles chart. The reason <em>ONCE IN A BLUE MOON</em> was abandoned remains a mystery, but one factor could be that Stewart recorded his <em>Unplugged...And Seated</em> in early 1993. Released just three months later, the album sold three million copies in the U.S. alone. Whatever the reason for its disappearance, fans can celebrate that the album is here at last.

Lonestar Debuts <em>Party Heard Around the World</em>

The New Year of 2010 launches with the promise of the much-anticipated return to the charts of a true country music super-group - Lonestar -whose career path to date has been marked by countless multi-platinum milestones.

The band is releasing their first studio album in four years-cause enough for celebration to the universe of country/pop cross-over fans who have long embraced them. And the news gets better. <em>Party Heard Around The World</em>, their 10thalbum, is a total 'hands on' creative effort, produced by the band with eight of the ten tracks written by the foursome. Noted lead guitarist and original member Michael Britt said in a recent interview: "We feel that this album is a complete reflection of the group, circa 2010. It's personal and powerful music that reflects the core values of Lonestar through lyrics, performance and production."

Lonestar's commitment to open the new decade with a new chapter of music will have the full label support of Saguaro Road Records and be the subject of a major multi-phase national retail/radio/media/marketing campaign set to roll-out in advance of the April 27 street date.

Known both for their strong country roots as well as their multi-genre crossover appeal that's led to a history of success on the pop/rock charts, Lonestar has only their own career records to break. To date, the band has RIAA certified sales in excess of 10 million album units since their national launch in 1995. The Texas bred band has had an impressive list of hit singles on the country charts, including ten #1's as well as nine Top 40 songs on the pop charts. Signature songs in the mid-90's included early #1 hits such as "No News," and "Come Cryin' To Me." Their 1999 album release, <em>Lonely Grill</em>, produced Lonestar's biggest crossover smash to date, the ballad "Amazed," which spent eight weeks at the #1 spot on the country charts as well as reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The dual win made them the first country act since Kenny Rogers &amp; Dolly Parton's "Islands In the Stream" in 1983 to accomplish this career milestone. Three more singles from the band ("Smile," "What About Now," and "Tell Her") followed to #1 as the <em>Lonely Grill</em> album was certified multi-platinum. Lonestar dealt listeners a follow-up platinum hand with the release of their <em>I'm Already There</em> album (2001) with the title track lead-off single spending six weeks at #1 as the album was on the way to platinum certification.

In addition to garnering music accolades, Lonestar has been oft- lauded for their continuous outreach in the arena of humanitarian goodwill. The band was recognized by The Academy of Country Music with the coveted Home Depot Humanitarian Award in 2003 for their continued commitment to help build the dreams of those in need-this in recognition to the group's single handed dedication to the building of a playground for children in tornado ravaged Jackson, Tennessee. America's military forces have been a major focus for concert and fund raising efforts by the band as has St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, to mention only a few of their ongoing humanitarian interests.

Lonestar consists of original members Dean Sams, Keech Rainwater, and Michael Britt, as well as lead vocalist Cody Collins who joined the group in 2007.

<em>Party Heard Around The World</em> is set to make a legion of new fans, as well as re-connect Lonestar to a universe of dedicated fans for whom their latest studio project has been eagerly awaited. Tour dates in support of the new album release are expected to be announced within the next few weeks.

New From Backbeat &amp; Hal Leonard: <em>Gibson's Fabulous Flat-Top Guitars</em> and <em>The Hofner Guitar: A History</em>

Backbeat and Hal Leonard have released new, expanded editions of two of its titles.

<em>Gibson's Fabulous Flat-Top Guitars</em>
By Eldon Whitford, David Vinopal &amp; Dan Erlewine
Foreword By Steve Earle
Second Edition

The Gibson Flat-Top is more than just an acoustic guitar. Its birth and evolution is entangled with close to 90 years of political, social, and musical history. Manufactured in Bozeman, MT, far away from the heat and humidity of the factories that produce the company's electric guitars, each flat-top is assembled by hand from the finest wood and mounted with top-of-the-line hardware. It is the standard by which all other acoustic guitars are measured, and if you doubt that just ask one of the many legends who brandish one. Over the years that list has included Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, Emmylou Harris, The Everly Brothers, Gram Parsons, Doc Watson, Gene Autry, Roy Smeck, and hundreds of others. Even in genres that have themselves undergone massive change and upheaval, the renowned Gibson Flat-Top remains a cornerstone.

Authors Dan Erlewine, Eldon Whitford, and David Vinopal are more than mere fans of the flat-top. Through their professional roles consulting with the luthiers in Bozeman who craft these guitars, they have gained immense knowledge about the instrument. Illustrated with over 200 B&amp;W photos throughout, plus two 16-page color inserts, this book takes the reader through the development of the Gibson Flat-Top from its introduction in 1926 to the plethora of variations and custom jobs that the guitar has seen over its lifetime. This revised edition includes numerous reference charts showing which styles were produced where and when, as well as detailed serial number info, body and series type specs, basic repair instructions, and endless historical trivia.

<em>The Hofner Guitar: A History</em>
Expanded Edition
By Gordon Giltrap and Neville Marten
Hofner guitars occupy a special place in the hearts of discerning music fans and vintage guitar connoisseurs. These German-built instruments are immediately recognizable by their rectangular control panels, deep-amber wood grains, and intricate headstock inlays. During the 1960's many instruments found their way into UK guitar shops and subsequently ended up in the hands of quite a few British Invasion stars. The Hofner brand finally landed in the general consciousness via the model most closely associated with the company, the violin-shaped 500/1 bass, recognizable the world over as Paul McCartney's instrument of choice.

Beyond the "Beatle Bass" Hofner produced a number of unique instruments. The beautiful archtops are favored in jazz picking circles. In the late 1960's the company launched designs inspired by (but by no means carbon copies of) the Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Les Paul and ES-335. Today these guitars, some of which were only produced for a very short time, have garnered a following of their own equal to, and in some cases greater than, their better-known cousins.

Hal Leonard Books is proud to bring back this long out-of-print and highly sought-after book in a new, updated edition. With the revised edition of The Hofner Guitar: A History, authors Gordon Giltrap and Neville Marten present the most complete and in-depth resource available on these revered guitars. The book tells the entire Hofner story from the early 1960's through the present day. Included are exclusive interviews and memories of Hofner instruments from Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmour, Justin Hayward, Roy Wood, Midge Ure, Albert Lee, and many others as well as a wealth of information on body, pickup, and headstock types, electronics configurations, and dating and pricing guidelines. The book is illustrated throughout with beautiful full-color photos of rare Hofner instruments and reproductions of rarely seen early advertisements and other ephemera.

65Amps Intros Tupelo model

65amps Tupelo is rooted in the same design as its brother, the 65amps Lil Elvis, but based on a 6V6 power section. The Tupelo's circuitry and custom transformers create a platform that reveals the true character of the power tubes to a surprising level. The 6V6 power section produces an outstanding example of American circuitry from the late '50s through the mid '60s while at the same time removing all the bad behaviors of those old amps. The Tupelo is a must for players whose ears are tuned to American circuits and sounds.

The Tupelo delivers 20 watt output and has an astonishing vocabulary, touch sensitivity, and harmonic richness. Its lush, soulful clean tone easily rolls over into harmonically complex distortion, offering the best of both worlds to players of all music genres. Loaded with 65amps' proprietary Master Voltage power technology, which keeps the entire vocabulary, authority, and response down to two or three watts, the Tupelo sounds and feels right at any volume, from bedroom to coffee house to small clubs. The Tupelo particularly shines as a tonally and harmonically flexible studio amp.

The Tupelo also has a passive FX Loop, two speaker outs, and 65amps' unique bias tremolo.

SNL's Christine Ohlman Releases CD

Christine Ohlman, a.k.a. "The Beehive Queen," whose "day job" is that of the flashy, gritty long-time featured vocalist with the Saturday Night Live Band, has completed her first new album in five years, <em>The Deep End</em>, to be released by the Horizon Music Group through Selct-O-Hits on April 6, 2010.

Having won the respect of many fellow artists over the years, Ohlman recruited a stellar group of them to contribute to the new CD, including Marshall Crenshaw, Dion DiMucci and Ian Hunter as duet partners, as well as an all-star list of accompanists: G.E. Smith, Eric "Roscoe" Ambel from the Del-Lords, NRBQ veteran Big Al Anderson, Catherine Russell, the Asbury Juke Horns (Chris Anderson and Neal Pawley) and more.

Working in a swampy, guitar-driven style of contemporary rock/R&amp;B, Ohlman and The Deep End co-producer Andy York (John Mellencamp) crafted 15 songs of life and love tempered by loss. It is Ohlman's first album of new work since 2004; her recording hiatus followed the deaths of both long-time producer and mate Doc Cavalier and guitarist and founding member of Ohlman's Rebel Montez band, Eric Fletcher. (The band presently includes Michael Colbath, bass; Cliff Goodwin, guitar; and Larry Donahue, drums.)

A Connecticut native and resident, Ohlman played with G.E. Smith in the Scratch Band in the 1970s, leading to her long association with Saturday Night Live. Her stint in fabled Studio 8H of Rockefeller Center includes the Sinead O'Connor and Ashley Simpson meltdowns (she was present for both) and the current season's hilarious "Swine Fever" commercial parody, featuring a magnificently beehived Ohlman in full Dolly Parton regalia.

Frampton Preps <em>Thank You Mr Churchill</em>

Following his Grammy-winning instrumental album, <em>Fingerprints</em>, Peter Frampton returns with his most personal collection to date, <em>Thank You Mr Churchill</em> (A&amp;M/New Door/UMe) April 27.

The 11-song set, co-produced and co-engineered by Frampton, is highlighted by the two-part, 8-minute instrumental, "Suite: Libert&eacute;."

"This album is very autobiographical," Frampton says. "It starts with my birth, which I thank Mr. Churchill for bringing my father back from the second World War."

Recorded at his home studio in Cincinnati, <em>Churchill</em> is deeply intimate, weaving tales of loss, love and redemption and the lessons learned along the way. <em>Churchill</em> also includes Frampton's reflective take on troubling world events, including the Wall Street bailout ("Restraint") and even the tragic case of Megumi Yokota, a Japanese girl kidnapped more than 30 years ago by South Korea ("Asleep At The Wheel").

Frampton wrote all tracks on <em>Churchill</em>, penning many with longtime collaborator Gordon Kennedy. His co-producer/co-engineer, Chris Kimsey, was the engineer on Frampton's first solo record, 1972's <em>Wind of Change</em>. It marked the first time the two, who reunited via Facebook, have worked together in 30 years. Co-engineer Don Gunn (Death Cab For Cutie) also contributes to <em>Churchill</em>. Guests include Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron, who also played on <em>Fingerprints</em>, and the legendary Funk Brothers, who appear on Frampton's Motown homage, "Invisible Man."

Grammy Museum to Host "Mississippi Night"

The State of Mississippi's continuing "Birthplace of America's Music" campaign gets a big boost next week with Mississippi Night at the Grammy Museum&reg; in Los Angeles. The evening of Thursday, January 28 is a preamble to Sunday's Grammy Award ceremonies, and will be highlighted by a program featuring performances from some of the state's brightest musical lights, a reflection of the great diversity of Mississippi music. Earlier in the day, Mississippians will take part in an educational program for the benefit of visiting Los Angeles high school students.

For the past three years, Mississippi has presented performance galas, hosted by Governor Haley Barbour, that have underscored the fact that Mississippi artists have been disproportionately represented among Grammy nominees and winners spread out over a wide variety of categories. This year's Mississippi Celebrates Its Grammy Legacy gala will take place May 27 at Biloxi's Hard Rock Casino. Peavey Electronics, based in Meridian, MS and The Mississippi Development Authority, have sponsored those events and are, similarly, supporting next week's Grammy Museum program.

The artists participating in Mississippi Night at the Grammy Museum underscore the broad spectrum of Mississippi's musical legacy. Learn more at msgrammy.com.

Luther Allison's <em>Songs from the Road</em> Due Feb. 9

Ruf Records announces a February 9 release date for Luther Allison's <em>Songs from the Road</em>, a live two disc CD/DVD that documents a magical night of blues music from the legendary guitarist/singer, recorded at the Montreal Jazz Festival by Canadian Television on July 4, 1997. Distributed in the U.S. by the Allegro Corporation, the new release will retail for a special low price, essentially getting both the CD and DVD for the price of one.

<em>Songs from the Road</em> was filmed just four days before Luther Allison was diagnosed with the terminal cancer which took his life one month later; thus, this document represents his last live recorded performance. The CD includes 80 minutes of the 90-minute set he performed that night, while the DVD features the 56-minute video version that was aired originally on Canadian TV. The CD includes 11 Luther Allison standout songs, including "Cherry Red Wine," his 1996 award-winning Song of the Year, "Serious," "Will It Ever Change," "Move from the Hood," and "It Hurts Me Too." The DVD also includes bonus footage of an interview with Allison, as well as a documentary on his life.

For a man with only one month to live, Luther Allison showcases an amazing performance on <em>Songs from the Road</em>, with blistering guitar runs, passionate singing and amazing showmanship, demonstrating why to this day he is still one of the most beloved bluesmen of all time. Melding blues and gospel, with rock and soul, Luther Allison's music transcended boundaries - musical, sociological, and geographical - with an appeal that endeared him to audiences all over the world. The CD captures all the raw energy that made his shows so special; and the beautifully filmed DVD brings the audience right up on stage with the legend, as the beads of sweat drip from his head and collect on his guitar, right before your eyes.

Umphrey's McGee on Rock Band Network

Umphrey's McGee will be among the first group of bands to offer songs at the just-launched (beta testing period) <em>Rock Band Network</em>. The much buzzed-about video game platform works with Xbox video game systems to allow bands to Xbox users, and to offer fans a way dig into their favorite band's music in ways they have never been able to before.

Umphrey's McGee has been working with former Harmonix Music Systems employee - and now "Rock Band" freelancer - Andrew Buch. An alumn of Berklee College of Music, Buch has author several Umphrey's McGee songs for the new program, including "1348" and "Miss Tinkles Overture." These songs and others will be made available within the next few months - when the first wave of the Rock Band Network releases are scheduled to hit upon the release of the new Xbox 360 system.

Buch, whose video/music "claims-to-fame" include the underground release of his mind-numbingly difficult "Trippolette" in the original <em>Guitar Hero</em>, has worked on several games in the <em>Guitar Hero</em> and <em>Rock Band</em> franchises, making him a likely choice to prepare the music of Umphrey's McGee for the game. Additional work by Buch can be found at http://www.andrewbuch.com, including video footage of both Umphrey's McGee's music and the <em>Rock Band Network</em> re-release of "Trippolette."

Umphrey's McGee's participation in the Rock Band network is one of many ways this band continues to prove themselves truly a band of the 21st century. The band's innovative, interactive Stew Art Series (S2) has been hailed as a ground-breaking fan experience.Hosted as individual events before that evening's already scheduled show, Umphrey's Stew Art Series is a crowd-sourced improvisation experiment, in which all the music performed by the group on stage are entirely directed by S2 audience members. Check out this S2 video from the inaugural S2 event in Milwaukee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYJn64XRGXU.

Jeff Beck Releasing New Studio Album

For his first studio album in seven years, Grammy-winning guitarist Jeff Beck returns with an eclectic mix of tracks that find the guitar virtuoso accompanied by a handpicked cast of talented musicians, as well as several songs accompanied by a 64-piece orchestra. Rhino unleashes the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer's restless genius with <em>Emotion &amp; Commotion</em>. The album will be available on Atco Records, an imprint of Rhino Entertainment, on April 13.

Beck recorded <em>Emotion &amp; Commotion</em> late last year at Sarm Studios in London with award-winning producers Steve Lipson and Trevor Horn. To create the album's diverse sound, Beck used a number of musicians, including appearances by frequent collaborators Vinnie Colaiuta (drums), Jason Rebello (keyboards), and Tal Wilkenfeld (bass). The album also includes contributions from a trio of singers: Imelda May ("Lilac Wine"), Olivia Safe ("Elegy For Dunkirk"), and Grammy-winner Joss Stone ("I Put A Spell On You" and "There's No Other Me").

To complement the innovative tones he coaxes from his guitar, Beck recorded with a 64-piece orchestra on songs that range from Puccini's immortal aria "Nessun Dorma" and "Elegy For Dunkirk" from the film Atonement to "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" from The Wizard Of Oz and Jeff Buckley's interpretation of "Corpus Christi Carol."

Beck says the idea of pairing his guitar with an orchestra evolved from the version of Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 5 he recorded a few years ago. "It turned out amazingly well, but I didn't want to commit to an entire album of classical music. What appealed to me instead was the idea of bringing together these seemingly contradictory sounds on different kinds of nonclassical music."

In addition to the orchestral pieces,<em>Emotion &amp; Commotion</em> showcases a number of original compositions. For "Hammerhead," Beck fires the rocker's opening salvo through his wah pedal before falling into a deep groove carved out by the rhythm section and horn arrangement. At the opposite end of the sonic spectrum, the airy arrangement that elevates "Never Alone" provides a wide-angle soundscape for Beck's imagination to freely explore the high-flying melody.

Before launching a world tour to support <em>Emotion &amp; Commotion</em>, Beck will unite with Eric Clapton in February for a series of exclusive shows in London, New York City, Toronto, and Montreal. The guitarists-both former members of the Yardbirds-will play separately before taking the stage to perform together.

After the shows with Clapton, Beck will play South Korea, Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan before returning to America for the U.S. leg of the tour starting mid-April and including an appearance at the New Orleans Jazz Festival on May 1.

For Beck, the new album and tour follows in the wake of a triumphant 2009-his most successful year ever. Among the many highlights were a sold-out world tour; his second induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame; the release of the platinum-selling Performing This Week... Live At Ronnie Scott's, which earned a Grammy nomination for "A Day In The Life"; and magnificent performances with his band at the 25th Anniversary Concert of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Madison Square Garden.

Bonamassa, Bonham Help Form Supergroup

A new super group has been formed with Jason Bonham, Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa and Derek Sherinian. They are calling themselves Black Country, taking their name from the industrial area in England from which Bonham and Hughes both hail. The band is currently in the studio with producer Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin) cutting tracks for an upcoming album to be released in late 2010 or early 2011.

With Bonham on drums, Sherinian on keyboards, Hughes on bass and vocals, and Bonamassa on guitar and vocals, the band already has six tracks cut. The next recording session will take place in March and the band hopes to finish recording in early April. Shirley made the announcement on his website: "So there it is folks - the cat is out the bag! This is Black Country. The songs are all original and what a lineup. They are all the very best players in the world, for my money!"

Shirley added, "Jason Bonham is a totally unique drummer and a supreme, yet oh-so-tasty powerhouse. Derek Sherinian is super versatile, and is playing mostly overdriven Hammond organ in this ensemble and is the color on the palette. Glenn Hughes plays bass and sings with a range very, very few can even get close to, and Joe Bonamassa, perhaps the best Blues Rock guitarist around, plays hard riffing guitar as well as adding his signature vocals alongside Glenn. You'll just have to wait - we're planning to get this out late summer, and it's promising to be phenomenal!"

Santana's <em>Supernatural: Legacy Edition</em> in stores Feb. 16

With a chart record that now spans five decades and one of the most best-selling catalogs in recording history, Santana's torrid gumbo of blues-rock, rhythm and soul, Afro-Cuban jazz, Mexicano, and world music flavors is an enduring wonder of contemporary popular music.

Iin June, 1999, Santana released an album destined to be the biggest of their career. <em>Supernatural</em>, a long-overdue reunion between producers Carlos Santana and Clive Davis, brought fresh collaborations with (in alphabetical order) Cee-Lo, Eagle-Eye Cherry, Eric Clapton, Everlast, Lauryn Hill, Mexican supergroup Maná, Dave Matthews and bandmate Carter Beauford, producers the Dust Brothers, KC Porter, Wyclef Jean, and others. The album spun off two huge RIAA platinum #1 hits - "Smooth" featuring Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, and "Maria Maria," produced by Wyclef Jean, featuring his hip-hop prot&eacute;g&eacute;s the Product G&amp;B - the first Hot 100 #1 hits of Santana's career. They spent a cumulative half-year at #1 and paved the way for the album to amass chart honors and generate Grammy Awards&reg; beyond anyone's imaginations or expectations (except, of course, Clive's).

In commemoration, <em>Supernatural: Legacy Edition</em> presents the album's first new remastering - personally supervised by Carlos - since its original release. In the tradition of the prestigious Legacy Edition series, the new package adds a second disc of rarities - 11 tracks, eight of them songs that were not contained on the album, seven of them previously unissued, including outtakes, dance club mixes, and instrumental material. A 24-page full-color booklet includes rare photo graphy and memo rabilia from the Santana archives. The specially-designed double-CD package, encased in the distinctive Legacy Edition mylar slipcase, will be available February 16.

Reprotone Picks Made from Post-Consumer Recyclables

Reprotone Inc. announces production of their 100% recycled guitar picks available now in a variety of thicknesses and materials.

Reprotone picks are manufactured in the United States of America with reprocessed raw materials. While this is a nice catch phrase and sentiment, it is also a fact that we at Reprotone Inc. take seriously and stand behind. When we say "made in USA," we mean that the part and tooling design, the manufacture of the injection molds, the raw material reclamation and reprocessing, and the final molding of the picks were all done in the United States. We'd also like to point out that our picks are produced with 100% recycled materials. Aside from limiting the range of colors we can produce in our Nylon picks, there is no reason not to use recycled materials in our processes.

We currently offer three styles of guitar pick in several thickness', indicated in millimeters below our logo on the "A" side of the pick. At this time we offer .50mm, .75mm, and 1.00mm thick picks. The embossed logo on the "B" side of the pick indicates the type of material used in molding the pick. Our "100% Shag - PA66" picks are made from 100% recycled nylon 6/6 carpet fibers. "Re-PETE" picks are made from 100% recycled P.E.T.E. "Copperhead" picks with the coiled snake engraved on the "B" side are produced from a copper filled nylon, these picks are the only copper filled nylon picks that we know of in the world. The copper gives the pick twice as much mass as an unfilled nylon pick, and produces unique tone.

All three styles of pick are available with custom engraving on the "B" side for a relatively small set up fee and minimum run quantity. This engraving is limited to .750" in diameter and will be embossed on the pick.

Johnny A. Presents <em>One November NIght</em>

Virtuoso guitarist Johnny A. announces a March 9 release date on Aglaophone Records for <em>One November Night</em>, a two-disc DVD/CD set recorded live at Scullers in Boston. Filmed using five high definition cameras and recorded direct for amazing sound clarity, the new DVD/CD captures one of America's premier contemporary guitarists in an intimate setting for a truly special experience.

Both discs include many of his fans' favorites taken from Johnny A.'s two previous studio albums, <em>Sometime Tuesday Morning</em> (2001) and <em>Get Inside</em> (2004), including such songs as 'I Had to Laugh," "Tex Critter," "Two Wheel Horse," Lullabye for Nicole," "Ignorance Is Bliss" and "Get Inside." Also featured is the previously unrecorded "Jimi Jam," a sonic salute to Hendrix and such other iconic guitarists as Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton.

The DVD also includes bonus interview segments, and concludes with his transcendent solo rendition of The Left Banke classic, "Walk Away Renee," filmed outdoors against a vibrant New England mountain sunset.

Bonus tracks on the CD include his take on Hendrix's "The Wind Cries Mary" and Jimmy Webb's "Wichita Lineman," as well as two previously unrecorded songs:

The Beatles' "The Night Before" and Chuck Berry's "Memphis."

"Fans had been asking for a live album for some time now," says Johnny in the package liner notes, "and I finally decided it was probably the right time to release it. This is an honest, no frills presentation of one night in the life of what I do."
>
> Playing his Johnny A. Signature Model guitar developed by Gibson in 2003 (which has become one of the company's most successful and popular models), he paints gorgeous aural portraits of each song, using tone, melody and dynamics ranging from shimmering single note patterns to ferocious rave-ups, which literally surround the audience in sound.

Since the release of his earlier CDs, Johnny A. has carved out a unique spot in music. His song, "Oh Yeah," became the first number one instrumental in more than a decade on the Triple A radio charts. Along with his commercial radio airplay, feature segments on National Public Radio and other syndicated radio shows, plus extensive touring and the release of his instructional DVD, Taste, Tone, Space (2006), combined sales of Johnny A. discs are now approaching 150,000 copies.

His previous work as a sideman with Peter Wolf (where he spent seven years and co-produced Wolf's 1996 solo album, Long Line), Bobby Whitlock and others helped set the stage for his solo career and developed his reputation as a guitar player extraordinaire. In the last several years, he's also been asked to appear at such prestigious festivals as Eric Clapton's Crossroads, the Montreal Jazz Festival and Tokyo's Fuji Rock Festival.

In addition to his extensive radio airplay, Johnny A's been recognized by the music press around the world as a very special talent. "Devotion to melodies, tight dynamics and succulent tones perfectly temper Johnny's balance of fire and ice," said Guitar World. "Johnny A. has eclectic musical vision and the skills to realize it...A.'s music is both accessible and sophisticated," said Jazziz magazine in its review.

Telarc signs Moreland &amp; Arbuckle

Telarc International, a division of Concord Music Group, today announced the signing of an exclusive deal with Moreland &amp; Arbuckle, whose debut recording for the label, <em>Flood</em>, will be released on February 23, 2010. The rootsy, hard-driving group from Kansas performs their own potent brand of gritty, stripped down blues-rock with Aaron Moreland playing a cigar-box guitar that uses bass and guitar strings, and Dustin Arbuckle singing and playing harmonica, with Brad Horner on drums.

While Arbuckle was mostly influenced by the Mississippi blues, traditional country music and bluegrass, Moreland grew up listening to everyone from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath to Charlie Patton and Muddy Waters. Guitar Edge magazine wrote, "The pride of Kansas plays Hill Country stomps like his life depends on it." The Edmonton Journal calls Moreland &amp; Arbuckle "one of the more inspiring young acts putting a new shine on music rooted in a century-old tradition."

Moreland &amp; Arbuckle were nominated by BluesWax as 2008 Artist of the Year, and their previous release, <em>1861</em>, won the Indie Acoustic Project 2008 CD of the Year Award. The band recently performed for U.S. troops in Iraq and Kuwait.

"We're psyched to be with a label the quality of Telarc," says Moreland. Arbuckle agrees, "Telarc gets who we are. It's a great fit."

"This is such a vibrant group" says Jason Linder, Vice-President of Marketing for Telarc. "We really feel that Moreland &amp; Arbuckle are ready to ride the trajectory upward, and we are glad to be part of that equation."

Moreland &amp; Arbuckle have also signed an agreement with Monterey International, the top booking agency for blues and roots music

Foley, Karp Collaborate

Blind Pig Records has announced the signing of U.S. singer/songwriter Peter Karp and Canadian Juno award winner Sue Foley for a joint recording project entitled "He Said - She Said."

"He Said - She Said" is an inspired collaboration of original songs adapted from correspondence the two shared through letters written over a two year period. These letters started as a casual exchange between two committed performers sharing their common bond of the loneliness of the road, the pain of separation from family and home and above all, the drive to make music. But as time went on, the letters they shared became more poignant, more revealing, more intimate. An account of the personal struggles and dramatic changes that were happening in their lives, they chronicle a crucial period of time of growth and struggle for them as artists and on a personal level.

Both art ists had no idea and no intention at the time that the letters would become an album. Creatively, the creation of the album was an organic process, as the two songwriters eventually came to recognize that their letters provided the basic material for a series of songs. Blind Pig Records will release the "He Said - She Said" CD in March.

Karp and Foley have also developed a compelling "He Said - She Said" live performance based on the album. The show features the interpersonal dynamic that formed the genesis and evolution of the recordings. The songs represent a meeting of hearts and minds, an interplay of shared artistic purpose and spiritual kinship.

Whether they're performing as an acoustic duo or with their electric band, the music encompasses elements of folk, jazz, flamenco, and blues, resulting in a show that is moving, literate, romantic, rocking and exciting. Blues Revu e magazine reviewed one of these shows, saying, "'He Said - She Said' is a unique, daring idea beautifully executed by two talented, inspired artists unafraid to express themselves in songs of hope, longing, emptiness, love and frustration. A masterpiece."

HE: Peter Karp is a gifted American troubadour, a master songsmith with an art for spinning true-to-life emotions, humor, and candor. With an upbringing that was equal parts southern Alabama and the swamps of New Jersey, Karp's music is fueled by the Yankee-Rebel juxtaposition. He established himself on the national scene as a critically acclaimed songwriter, an accomplished guitarist and pianist with the release of his Blind Pig release entitled "Shadows and Cracks." On the road across the U.S. and Canada, Karp repeatedly transfixes his live audiences. Critics compare his songwriting to John Hiatt and John Prine with impressive guitar and slide licks infuse d by his love of Freddie King and Elmore James. Peter Karp personifies the amorphous Americana sound, seamlessly blending blues, folk and roots music with a high sense of entertainment.

SHE: Sue Foley is considered to be one of the finest blues/roots artists working today. Born to a working class family, Sue spent her early childhood moving from Canadian town to town with her mother. At 16 she embarked on her professional career. By 21 she was living in Austin TX and recording for legendary blues label Antone's Records. Her first CD, "Young Girl Blues," quickly established her unique talents as a blues guitarist and songwriter. Throughout the 90's she took to the road with her paisley Telecaster and honed her craft working/sharing the stage with such artists as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Lucinda Williams and Tom Petty. After moving back to Canada, Sue won the prestigious Juno award for her critically acclaimed CD "Love Coming Down."

John Jorgenson Preps Two Albums

As one of the pioneers of American gypsy jazz music, Jorgenson is celebrating the father of gypsy jazz, Django Reinhardt, whose 100th birthday would have been January 23rd of this year, with two album releases and a touring schedule that takes him across the country and across the pond with the John Jorgenson Quintet. Widely known as the "U.S. Ambassador of Gypsy Jazz," Jorgenson has earned a reputation as a world-class musician and guitarist and has collaborated with the likes of Elton John, Luciana Pavarotti, Bonnie Raitt and Bob Dylan. Both new releases see this legendary musician exploring new elements of world music, bluegrass, rock and classical as Jorgenson expands the range of gypsy jazz, captivating and enlightening fellow musicians and listeners along the way.

One Stolen Night, Jorgenson's first 2010 release, is the second album credited to the John Jorgenson Quintet, following up on the Billboard Jazz chart success of Ultraspontane. This collection contains a mix of standards and new compositions, with plenty of clarinet and swing, plus a vocal and the addition of the Greek bouzouki into the Quintet's instrumentation. The Quintet recorded all of the tracks in two days using minimal production, resulting in a "live in the studio" sound that is warm, rich and so crisp that it transports the listeners to an intimate private concert.

The album features a driving rhythm section throughout as Jorgenson creates a classic gypsy jazz feel while pushing the boundaries with his arrangements and melodic content. "Red on Red" opens the album with fanfare and Django-inspired minor key swing, while "Mediterranean Blues" highlights a fiery jam session between violin and guitar. The title track, "One Stolen Night," presents a captivating melody and showcases the enchanting sound of the bouzouki. Throughout the album the John Jorgenson Quintet creates a unique musical experience that equally enthralls the most discerning and the casual music fan with a sound that is all at once dynamic, romantic, driving, melodic and accessible.

Jorgenson's second album release in 2010, Istiqbal Gathering, is the culmination of a long relationship between Jorgenson and Paul Gambill, conductor of Orchestra Nashville, and was recorded live at Ocean Way Nashville and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center. Jorgenson and Gambill combined with a world-class team of musicians and collaborators to create the first collection of music specifically composed and recorded for gypsy jazz guitar and orchestra.

Jorgenson's brilliant guitar work leads the way, supported by the progressive and dynamic Orchestra Nashville. "Concerto Glasso" and "Istiqbal Gathering" feature a full orchestra, the latter showcasing the breathtaking talents of Alexander Fedoriuk on cimbalom and David Davidson on violin. "Dieter's Lounge" and "Groove in the Louvre" feature the unexpected blend of string orchestra along with the GRAMMY award-winning Turtle Island Quartet. The combination is a groundbreaking album full of soaring melodies and driving rhythms, and it is utterly one of a kind.

The John Jorgenson Quintet is the only American act to ever headline the prestigious Django Reinhardt Memorial Festival in France, and has been featured at other "Djangofests" in the U.S., UK, Germany and Canada. For the films Gattica and Head in the Clouds Jorgenson was tapped to recreate Django's music, and in the latter he even appeared onscreen as Django with stars Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz.

Despite the levels of success Jorgenson has already attained, the acclaimed musician has no intention of taking it easy any time soon. Building on the legacy of Reinhardt, Jorgenson continues to expand the popularity of his beloved gypsy jazz by offering listeners an exotic yet familiar sound to which they can relate. If 2010 is any indication, we can expect Jorgenson to take gypsy jazz to new heights for many years to come.

Guitarist and songwriter Darrel W. Herbert, best known for his tenure in the Toadies for their platinum selling <em>Rubberneck</em> album which featured the '90s rock radio staple "Possum Kingdom", has formed a new grou, DWH, he teamed up with drummer and fellow Texan Mitch Marine (Dwight Yoakam, Smash Mouth, Tripping Daisy, Brave Combo) and former Manic bassist Nate Perry to write and record 12 tracks over the last year.

This electrifying, 100-minute release will be available as a CD with a Bonus DVD, as well as a standalone Blu-ray disc. The Pretenders - Chrissie Hynde, Martin Chambers, James Walbourne, Nick Wilkinson, and Eric Heywood - perform their biggest hits, including "Kid," "Back On The Chain Gang," "Middle Of The Road," "Brass In Pocket" and many more. The video was shot without the use of cranes, dollies or steadicams to create movement. Instead it is about the band, giving it all and not holding back any as they do any night when they hit the stage. The filmmakers' objective was to stay out the way and capture it within the frame. The band played brilliantly that night and what can be heard &amp; seen on this release is an honest reproduction of that moment in time. There are no overdubs made to the music and no fake crowd noises added. The editing is made to savor moments and the music was mixed and mastered for it to breathe.

"A good percentage of the market wants to plug in their acoustic guitars, either for performance, studio or home recording," said Chris Martin IV, Chairman and CEO Martin Guitar. "As musical trends evolve, we will remain committed to providing the finest acoustic guitars available in both acoustic and acoustic/electric configuration."

Each model in the Performing Artist Series offers its own distinctive acoustic and plugged-in sound for the discerning player. The DCPA1 offers the powerful and resonant Martin Dreadnought tone. The OMCPA1 is well balanced, offering warm bass response with crisp clear trebles. The new GPCPA1 shares characteristics from the big rich sound of the Dreadnought and the clarity of the Orchestra model and combines them into a new sonic signature all of its own. All three guitars share the same well-known Martin construction including solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, a solid Sitka spruce soundboard with hybrid scalloped bracing, a genuine ebony headplate, fingerboard and bridge, and a patented mortise and tenon neck joint.

The Performing Artist Series features many firsts for the company, including a more parallel neck profile with a slimmer taper at the 12th fret, giving the guitar comfortable width in the first few frets plus a faster feel for lead-work as you move up the neck. The new smaller bridge design reduces mass and increases the soundboard's tonal response.

Striking new aesthetic features include a pearl Martin block-style logo inlaid into the ebony headplate. New fingerboard inlays use traditional squares in colorful blue paua, flanked by arrow designs adding to the guitar's sleek modern style. A newly-designed two ring rosette borders the soundhole with a stunning combination of blue paua and wood fiber inlays. Finely polished gloss lacquer highlights the body's beauty, while a durable satin finish on the guitar's neck adds to the quicker feel and player's comfort.

The new Fishman&reg; F1 Aura&reg; features the stunning realism of award-winning Aura Acoustic Imaging technology in a distinctive and easy to use onboard preamp system. State-of-the-art features include: digital chromatic tuner, volume and blend controls, independent 3-band EQ for both pickup and image signals, compressor, phase control and an automatic anti-feedback filter with up to 3 notches. The heart of the F1 Aura is its ability to replicate the sound of nine different world-class studio microphones. Fishman engineers have carefully captured images of the sound that these high-quality microphones "hear" and allow you to blend it in with the legendary Gold+Plus under saddle pickup. The preamp design utilizes low-noise components, 32-bit internal processing and 24-bit audio conversion for an incredibly clean and quiet output.

A Limited Lifetime Warranty covers all "Performing Artist Series" models purchased from authorized Martin dealers in the U.S. and Canada. To protect your investment, each guitar includes a brown hardshell case.

Carvin Founder Lowell Kiesel Passes

Lowell C. Kiesel, founder of Carvin, passed away December 28 in San Diego. He was 94.

Kiesel was born in Nebraska on February 22, 1915. As a young man, he spent time in Wichita, Kansas, where he developed an interest in musical instruments; specifically, Hawaiian steel guitars, resonators and the newly-emerging electronic aspects of these instruments. During his time in Kansas in the 1930s, he performed live on local radio stations with his Hawaiian steel guitar. However, like other innovators in the burgeoning industry of that era, he found that he had an equal passion for building instruments and equipment as he did playing them, and that passion would become his life's work.

Following his time in the midwest, Mr. Kiesel relocated to Los Angeles, where he took a job with North American Aviation. It was World War II, and Mr. Kiesel was one of many men building aircraft for the war effort; notably, the legendary P-51 Mustang, which is often credited as turning the tide of the war for the Allies. Near the end of the war, in 1944, he married Agnes Dorothea, who would be with him until her passing in 2007.

He founded the L. C. Kiesel Company in 1946, and began winding guitar pickups on an old sewing machine. The company was initially located in Los Angeles, briefly relocated back to Mr. Kiesel's home state of Nebraska, and then moved back to southern California in 1949, by which time he had added amplifiers and steel guitars to his lineup of gear. There are still examples of these early Kiesel-badged steel guitars and amplifiers in existence today, underscoring the quality and durability of Mr. Kiesel's early designs. Originally, Kiesel pickups were sold through a distributor, but Mr. Kiesel felt he could do a better job by eliminating the middleman and selling his pickups directly to the customer, so an idea that would last until this day was born. He changed the name of the company to Carvin, after his two eldest sons, Carson and Gavin. In the earliest years of the company, he advertised in such magazines as Popular Mechanics, and began producing his own mail order catalog in the early 1950s. In the years that followed, the company expanded from pickups to guitars and basses, amplifiers, pro audio equipment and other musical accessories. Early Carvin steel guitars, amplifiers and electronics were made by Mr. Kiesel himself, and later by a few employees of the small company. In addition to his pickups, which were notably used by Semie Moseley in early Mosrite guitars, Mr. Kiesel designed and built many unique instruments, including an electric upright bass and an electric violin, which Agnes enjoyed playing.

Jam Camp is geared to "closet pickers" of all bluegrass instruments. "Many people want to start playing bluegrass, but they don't realize how easy it can be," says Wernick. "It's available for anyone, 8 to 88. Each camp (some of which precede bluegrass festivals) is a multi-day musical immersion, with hands-on instruction as students play in small groups. Participants are required only to be able to change smoothly between a few simple chords. A recent camper reports, "One of the best experiences in or out of music I have ever had!"

For intermediate players, Pete is also offering two intermediate level jam camp sessions this year: (1) an intermediate track as part of his North Carolina camp; and (2) a full-immersion intermediate/band skills camp in Loveland, Colorado. Topics covered include band dynamics and backup, ear skills, musicianship, harmony singing, practice techniques, performing skills, breakout sessions for instrument instruction, and more.

Redbone Guitarist Tony Bellamy Passes

Redbone guitarist Anthony Bellamy died December 25 in Las Vegas. He was 63.

The band became established as a Native American rock group in the 1970s, reaching the Top 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in 1974 with the song, "Come and Get Your Love."

Reportedly, none other than Jimi Hendrix talked the musicians into forming as the all-Native-American rock group, which signed to Epic Records in '69. The band, which chose the name as a joking reference to a Cajun term for the mixed-race makeup of its members, consisted of Patrick Vasquez, Lolly Vasquez, drummer Pete DePoe, and Bellamy. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1970 and the band played primarily rock music with R&amp;B, cajun, jazz, tribal and Latin roots. Their first commercial success was with the single, "Maggie" from their second album, <em>Potlatch</em>, in 1970. Two other hit singles would follow; "The Witch Queen of New Orleans" in 1971, which went to #21 on the <em>Billboard</em> Hot 100, and their greatest hit song to date, "Come and Get Your Love" in 1974, which went to #5 on the <em>Billboard</em> Hot 100. "Come and Get Your Love", stayed in the <em>Billboard</em> charts for 24 weeks, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. on April 22, 1974.

Bellamy, a Mexican-American Yaqui Indian who became the lead guitarist, pianist, and vocalist for the Native American band, grew up in a family of dancers and musicians and learned to play the flamenco guitar as part of his musical education. Before joining Redbone, he performed with Dobie Gray, and a was a member of the San Francisco band Peter and the Wolves, which evolved into Moby Grape.was inducted into the Native American Music Awards Hall of Fame with Redbone in 2008.

Gibson Launches Jimmy Page "#2" Les Paul

Gibson Custom announces the Gibson Custom Jimmy Page Number Two Les Paul Limited Edition guitar modified by the legendary Jimmy Page himself. Every musician knows that late '50s Sunburst Les Paul Standards are hard enough to come by as it is. Obtaining a pristine and exemplary '59 'Burst and modifying it for heightened performance and vastly expanded tonal options? Unheard of... unless, of course, you're Jimmy Page. That's exactly what the legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist, perhaps the world's most iconic Les Paul player, did with his own '59 Les Paul Standard, and now-thanks to the extreme efforts of Gibson's Custom Shop and the intimate cooperation of Jimmy Page himself-the artist's hallowed "Number Two" Les Paul is available to mere mortals, in the form of the Custom Shop Jimmy Page "Number Two" Les Paul. Produced in strictly limited numbers, with two levels of aging, this guitar captures the look, feel, sound, and versatility of one of the greatest artist-owned Les Pauls of all time, and it is likely to disappear from authorized Gibson dealers in record time.

The 1959 Les Paul that has come to be known as "Number Two" was purchased by Page in 1973 after trying for some time to acquire an exceptional second Les Paul. This was several years after having acquired his other legendary Les Paul-"Number One", a '59 'Burst with shaved-down neck profile and no serial number-from Joe Walsh. "Number Two" was essentailly all original when he aquired it. Jimmy did have some modifications done to the neck shape so that it would more nearly match the feel of his "Number One". The neck is certainly slim but not to such extremes as the now-ultra-slim neck on "Number One". It had a strong, beautiful sunburst finish with a red element that had faded to a dusky amber-brown, along with a clear serial number dating it to 1959. Page played this Les Paul frequently through his days with Led Zeppelin, and in the early '80s decided to make it an even more versatile instrument. Page also added that he wanted to "explore the full range of what the two humbuckers have to offer" . He designed a switching system for coil splitting, series/parallel, and phase-reverse options for both pickups, and employed a skilled electronics technician to devise a working schematic and make his sonic vision a reality. The result comprised a push/pull pot on each of the guitar's four standard controls, plus two push-button switches hidden beneath the pickguard, all mounted on a '59 Les Paul Standard that is otherwise a superb example of the breed, both in tone and playability.

The Custom Shop Jimmy Page "Number Two" Les Paul was recreated with intense, inch-by-inch examination of Page's original guitar, inside and out. The process of getting it right involved the production of a number of hand-built prototypes, each of which was checked and critiqued in detail by Page himself. Approval of the final iteration was only offered after the legendary artist had intricately examined and extensively played this last prototype in his London home-after which it was given the thumbs-up, worthy of being the template for the Custom Shop Jimmy Page "Number Two" Les Paul. Only 325 examples will be produced in total: The first 25 instruments are to be aged by vintage-reproduction master Tom Murphy then inspected, played and hand signed and numbered by Jimmy Page personally. An additional 100 guitars will be given the extensive aging treatment and 200 will be finished to Gibson's VOS specs.

Along with co-lead Sam Andrew, Gurley was responsible for laying down the musical foundation underlying Janis Joplin's unique vocal stylings in her original band.
Fans Look to Honor Fogelberg

Longtime fans of Dan Fogelberg (1951-2007) are seeking to honor the late singer/songwriter/guitarist in his hometown of Peoria, Illinois by constructing a memorial park overlooking the Illinois River.

Longtime Fogelberg fan Hugh Higgins is among the individuals who have undertaken the project, and recalled that the inspiration came from a radio station 90 miles southeast of Peoria.

"Public radio station WILL, in Champaign, broadcast a program with interviews from friends, and rarely-heard tapes from Dan's coffee house days when he was a student a the University of Illinois," Higgins recalled. "The only place I could get reception was on the high bluffs of Grand View Drive. Dan stated once in concert that the view of the river from this vantage point was inspirational to him."

The project has garnered approval from the Peoria Park District, the city's Economic Development Council, and the city council. Deborah Jelinek, DanFogelberg.com Communications Director and webmaster of Dan's endorsed fan site, thelivinglegacy.net, has created a third site that provides details on the proposed memorial park in addition to the other tributes Peoria has done in honor of their native son.

Higgins said that the memorial committee is considering a park similar to the John Denver Sanctuary near Denver, Colorado, and that donations have already been received from fans as far away as the Netherlands.

Fogelberg died in 2007 following an extended bout with prostate cancer. In 2001, Martin Guitars issued the D-41DF limited edition, based on Fogelberg's own Martin instrument.

In a year that saw Dailey &amp; Vincent taking home IBMA Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group and Gospel Recorded Performance awards for the second time, they also released their second CD for Rounder, Brothers From Different Mothers. Currently, it tops the Bluegrass Unlimited National Bluegrass Survey album chart for the third consecutive month (December). PopMatters, an online journal covering popular culture, included the album at #10 on its Best Bluegrass of 2009 list. Keith Lawrence at the Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer put Brothers at the top of his Best Bluegrass Albums of 2009 list, writing, "This is some of the best harmony singing - and some of the best Southern soul - you'll hear this year.
Guitarist John Frusciante (<em>VG</em>, Aprilj '09) recently confirmed that he has amicably parted ways with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, using a Myspace blog to say "...musical interests have led me in a different direction."

The Peppers are reportedly working on a new album, and rumors have been circulating last week that he was replaced by Josh Klinghoffer, who toured with the band in 2007 and also appeared on Frusciante's 2009 solo album, <em>The Empyrean</em>. Until now, representatives for the RHCPs would not confirm the news of Frusciante's departure to Rolling Stone. Frusicante joined the band in the late 1980s, and played on its breakthrough 1989 album, <em>Mother's Milk</em> and 1991's <em>Blood Sugar Sex Magik</em>, before leaving for the time in 1992. He rejoined prior to the making of <em>Californication</em>,

Lennon, Cook Relase Charity Single

Julian Lennon, son of the legendary John Lennon, and James Scott Cook have released their new digital single, "LUCY," to raise funds for research on the disease lupus. From now until March 15, 2010, 100 percent of the proceeds from downloading "LUCY" at iTunes will be donated to the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA), and the Saint Thomas' Lupus Trust in Great Britain.

Both musicians have a personal connection to lupus. Julian's childhood friend, Lucy Vodden, recently passed away at the age of 46 after long battle with lupus, and James' grandmother, Lucy Cook, has lived with lupus for many years. Vodden was the subject of a drawing Julian created as a child which inspired his father to write the memorable Beatles hit song, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds."

"We thank Julian Lennon and James Scott Cook for their generous support, which not only will help fund lupus research, but also will go a long way to help raise awareness and draw international attention to this perilous disease," said Sandra Raymond, LFA President and CEO. "The proceeds from the song will support LFA's comprehensive National Lupus Research Program, Bringing Down the Barriers, which addresses key barriers that have for decades obstructed progress of basic biomedical, clinical, epidemiological, behavioral, and translational lupus research. "

For more information about lupus, the story behind the song "LUCY," or to make a donation to support lupus research, visit www.lupus.org.

Foreigner Appearing on Conan

Foreigner will take the stage at "The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien" this Friday, and treat fans to a performance of "Hot Blooded," one of their seven Top 5 hits. The performance comes as "Can't Slow Down," the title track of the band's new 3-disc Walmart exclusive release, continues to gain traction on rock radio charts. In addition to the success of the new album, Foreigner saw a sales jump last week of the 2008 greatest hits package No End In Sight, re-entering the Billboard sales charts for a record-breaking sixth time.

Foreigner released Can't Slow Down in September with an impressive #29 Billboard chart debut. Available from Rhino Entertainment exclusively through Walmart, Can't Slow Down features a new studio album from Foreigner along with an album of the band's re-mixed original hit recordings and a DVD featuring the band in concert. The release, along with the band's 2008 greatest hits package No End In Sight, scored Foreigner the impressive honor of being the only classic rock group in recent history to have two albums, both featuring newly recorded tracks, in the Billboard 200 simultaneously.

Foreigner also saw an increase in rock radio spins last week driven by new single "Can't Slow Down." The song is currently #14 with a bullet in the Radio &amp; Records new music chart format. Can't Slow Down's initial single, "When It Comes to Love," continues its Top 30 run on adult contemporary airplay, charting in both Mediabase and Radio &amp; Records. This ranking and the band's consistent showing of Top 20 radio airplay puts Foreigner in the lead above other classic rock artists such as Bruce Springsteen, U2, Tom Petty, Bon Jovi and Journey.

Since the band's origin in 1976, Foreigner has sold more than 70 million albums and experienced multi-platinum success around the world. With classic songs such as "I Want to Know What Love Is," "Waiting For A Girl Like You," "Double Vision," and "Urgent," the group has scored nine Top 10 and sixteen Top 30 hits.

New Arcangels DVD/CD

Nearly eight years after headlining the Austin City Limits Festival, the Arcangels have reunited and released <em>Arcangels: Living in a Dream</em>, a DVD/CD featuring their <em>Live at Stubbs</em> performance along with three new studio tracks and a full length Documentary.

Formed in the musical hotbed of Austin, Texas, the Arcangels consist of some of the finest musical talents to ever play an instrument. With a devoted fan base, the Arcangels are known as a tremendous band with an equally remarkable story that began in 1992, after the devastating loss of their friend and fellow musician Stevie Ray Vaughan. The miracle that came from that loss was the unique sound of four musicians aptly named - the Arcangels: drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon (the veteran rhythm section of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Double Trouble) coupled with musical wonders Charlie Sexton and Doyle Bramhall II sharing lead vocal and lead guitar duties. The current band lineup consists of original members Bramhall, Sexton and Layton.

"Charlie and I started to write together again and decided that we should get the band back together. The chemistry that we all have together is one entity and it's something very real. It's fun," said Bramhall. "We're trying to take advantage and savor the good things and one of the good things is the Arcangels," added Charlie Sexton.

March 2009 marked the introduction of the band's new music and live tour launching at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX. Next they opened for Eric Clapton on his European tour before embarking on their own U.S. tour during the summer. "The stars kind of aligned once again. The band's back together and we're doing some new things," said Layton. The past few months on the road have only reaffirmed the band's strong bond and collective passion for music. The Arcangels are back and here to stay. The release of their new DVD/CD gives fans an all access look at the long road of hardships and challenges that the band has overcome to become the heralded Arcangels.

The Arcangels were formed at the Austin Rehearsal Center (ARC) which so aptly gave them a name. There, Sexton had a writing room to work on his next solo album, Bramhall was working under a development deal with Geffen Records, and Layton had a drum room where he would often practice. The initial idea had been quite simple; create a band that can jam when people happened to be in town or not on tour with Stevie. But Vaughan's death changed everything. When the foursome came together, press were quick to dub them a "Texas supergroup," but the guys shunned that tag. The band was purely a musical outlet and inspiration to all of them.

Not intending to be a recording band, the guys played live and just for fun, opening for the likes of Robert Cray. But they soon found the excitement and challenges of being a band, worth the effort. Sexton and Bramhall tabled their solo projects and began creating music specifically for the Arcangels.

The band's 1992 debut album release, Arc Angels, on Geffen Records met with much critical acclaim and managed to break onto the Billboard Top 200 chart. The sound was unique - raw and intense rock and roll steeped in the roots of Texas blues, but still radio-friendly and widely appealing. The group toured heavily after the album and on Tuesday, June 9, 1992, the Arcangels made their network television debut on the NBC show The Late Show with David Letterman where they performed "Living In A Dream." On Wednesday, January 6, 1993, they again performed on Letterman's show, this time playing "Too Many Ways to Fall." It seemed that this Texas quartet was poised to explode onto the national scene.

But their name proved a harbinger of things to come; the Arcangels fell as quickly as they rose. Creative differences, heavy touring, and Bramhall's admitted descent into a deep and nearly deadly heroin addiction caused the breakup of the band in 1994. The Arcangels came to an abrupt halt in October of that year with a series of farewell concerts at Austin's Backyard outdoor venue.

They each followed their individual paths from there. Bramhall went on to solo projects as well as touring with Roger Waters and Eric Clapton's band. Sexton made two critically acclaimed solo albums, toured with Bob Dylan, and has produced numerous high profile artist projects. Meanwhile, Layton recorded three albums with the Texas soul quintet Storyville and has backed such artists as Buddy Guy and John Mayer.

Produced and designed by Mark Proct and Charlie Boswell, the DVD/CD was recorded using Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) cutting edge live-audio technology, designed to give users the highest quality experience." We wanted to give our fans more than they would have expected in both content and quality of content" said Mark Proct " From the Nuendo recording systems to the DVD rendering AMD played a major role in the production of the CD/DVD and the outcome exceeded all of our expectations." Now, after almost 5 years in the making, the DVD/CD is finally available to fans and rock &amp; roll lovers of all ages.
Warwick Intros Bootsy Signature Model

The Warwick Bootsy Collins Infinity Signature Bass is as original as Bootsy himself. Bootsy Collins is the legendary bassist who left his mark on with James Brown in the '60s on such classics as "Sex Machine" and started a funky revolution in the '70s with Parliament and Funkadelic. Now you can bring on the funk just like Bootzilla has for the past four decades. The Warwick Bootsy Collins Infinity Signature Bass is ideally suited to help you realize your own wildest musical dreams - from thundering grooves to cool, funky sounds.

Both Bootsy Collins Signature variants, Black Star and Orange Star, are based on the Warwick Infinity 4-string bass, thus offering the same warm characteristics as the Infinity serial model, which is known for its semi-resonant construction. The combination of a maple neck with an ovangkol body provides a tight and focused tone, while the rosewood fingerboard provides a touch of warmth. Wild, flashy, and funky finishes - available with black stars on the Black Star model and orange stars on the Orange model - capture Bootsy's personal aesthetic with imaginative appeal. Black and silver flames dash out of the bass's distinct f-holes and the matching stars on the headstock and fingerboard immediately set this unique Warwick bass apart from all others, especially on stage.

The Warwick Bootsy Collins Infinity Signature Bass is equipped with active MEC Jazz- and Twin Jazz-pickups. The MEC 3-band EQ turns this bass into an extremely flexible beast! The bass was designed in cooperation with Collins and, like Bootzilla himself, represents the Funk genre like nobody's business.

Nick Gravenites' <em>Bluestar</em> Set for CD Release

Much sought after out-of-print solo LP by San Francisco/Chicago guitar legend Nick "The Greek" Gravenites, best known for his work with Janis Joplin, The Butterfield Blues Band, Big Brother &amp; Holding Company and Quicksilver, gets its first CD release. Originally released on LP by the Line label in 1980, 'Bluestar' features John Cipollina (Quicksilver) on guitar and Huey Lewis on harmonica. Foremost reissue label Renaissance Records in conjunction with ItsAboutMusic.com will be releasing the digitally remastered CD on December 8, 2009.

Nick Gravenites grew up on the southside of Chicago hanging out in the mid-50's with fellow musicians Elvin Bishop, Paul Butterfield, Michael Bloomfield, who went on to form The Butterfield Blues Band. Learning first-hand from the southside blues greats like Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Otis Rush, The Butterfield Blues Band burst onto the music scene redefining the blues. From the late 50's through the mid 60's, Gravenites travelled between Chicago and San Francisco, settling in the Bay Area in 1965. In addition to The Butterfield Blues Band, Gravenites has written and worked wth the likes of Janis Joplin (Nick wrote the song "Buried Alive In The Blues", but sadly Janis died the night before her scheduled time in the studio and the song appeared as an instrumental on her album), Michael Bloomfield, the Electric Flag (of which Gravenites was a founding member), Pure Prairie League, Tracy Nelson, Roy Buchanan, Jimmy Witherspoon as well as blues legends Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, and James Cotton. He has appeared on over 40 albums as singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer.

Nick is also responsible for writing the score for the film 'The Trip', and produced the music for the movie 'Steelyard Blues'. He produced the world hit "One Toke Over the Line" for Brewer &amp;Shipley and the album 'Right Place-Wrong Time' for Otis Rush for which he was nominated for a Grammy Award. Nick also worked extensively with John Cipollina after producing the first Quicksilver Messenger Service album. They formed the Nick Gravenites-John Cipollina Band and completed several tours in Europe. Nick still performs live in northern California today. He was inducted to the Blues Hall of Fame in 2003 for his song "Born In Chicago", and most recently toured with the Chicago Blues Reunion, and a new Electric Flag Band.

Mick Fleetwood Band Nominated For "Best Traditional Blues Album" Grammy

"It's incredibly rewarding to know that I am being recognized for the music that really started me off in my career. Not many people realize that the original Fleetwood Mac was indeed a blues band, and to come full circle at this point in my career is extremely gratifying," says drummer extraordinaire Mick Fleetwood about the Grammy nomination for the Mick Fleetwoo Blues Band Featuring Rick Vito CD <em>Blue Again</em> in the "Best Traditional Blues Album" category.

Being singled out in a category that has previously awarded such icons as B.B. King, John Lee Hooker, Etta James and Buddy Guy is "obviously an unbelievable honor," says MICK, calling from Australia where he's on the massive Fleetwood Mac world tour. "These artists are amongst the many that initially inspired me and could really be considered my mentors."

Working with friend and former Fleetwood Mac guitarist and vocalist Rick Vito "was incredibly comfortable and familiar. Not only because Rick and I had played together during his tenure in Fleetwood Mac, but also because his style is so reminiscent of [original Fleetwood Mac guitarist] Peter Green. Rick is one of the premiere slide players in the world and his uniqueness comes from his ability to marry both styles seamlessly."

Produced by Fleetwood and Vito, the <em>Blue Again</em> album was recorded live in 2008 at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis and released this year via 429 Records. The band - with bassist Lenny Castellanos and keyboardist Mark Johnstone - digs in deep on Peter Green-penned Fleetwood Mac gems such as "Stop Messin' Around," "Rattlesnake Shake" and "Black Magic Woman," as well Vito originals like "Red Hot Gal," Fleetwood Boogie," "When We Do The Lucky Devil," and "I Got A Hole In My Shoe," plus a cover of Elmore James' "Shake Your Moneymaker."

Daisy Rock Marks 10 Years

Tish Ciravolo got the idea for Daisy Rock Girl Guitars from a drawing created by her daughter in early 2000. "She was the cutest 1 year old, and her favorite thing to draw was daisies" said Ciravolo. "I was enjoying her being a child, not like so many other days when it feels like you are just trying to keep up. She drew a daisy, I turned it into a guitar, and my motherly, protective, musician self decided, in that frozen moment, to create a better experience for her in the music industry. Maybe one day she could walk into a music store and feel like she was welcome to be part of this "club," this culture, this awesome community of guitarists-regardless of gender. A community that I never felt welcomed into while being a musician in the '80s and '90s. This was my chance-my duty-to change the culture and provide her and all girls with a better, more inviting experience."

Forging a new and unique path in a male-dominated industry, Daisy Rock Girl Guitars made an immediate impression. Receiving acclaim from artists, press, and others in the music field, Ciravolo knew Daisy Rock was on a successful path. "Then, pink guitars popped up everywhere like wild weeds in the land of Daisy's. Everyone tried it. Everyone embraced it." Ciravolo continued, "The guitar industry acknowledged the change, and the music store dealer gladly accepted a new customer. And the artists believed in the passion and understood the mission." The first artist to contact Daisy Rock was Wanda Jackson, "Queen of Rockabilly" and recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee who praised that Daisy Rock Girl Guitars "fit girls in all the right places." Now 10 years later, the company boasts an artist roster of over 400 rockin' females, and that number is increasing every day.

Daisy Rock Girl Guitars has also become the leading sponsor of girl rock camps throughout the world. In 2000, Daisy Rock partnered with the Rock and Roll Camp for Girls, one of the very first rock camps specifically geared towards females, by donating instruments. Ciravolo remembered, "I just wanted to try and inspire every single female to pick up a guitar or bass and play music. Make it matter; make it a part of her life. I wanted to help girls find their passion, live their dreams, and be part of this crazy thing that we all create... music. Girl rock camps have grown exponentially over the last 10 years, and Daisy Rock is a proud partner and main supporter of all girl rock camps worldwide. All in all, within the past 10 years, Daisy Rock has helped over 150,000 girls play guitar.

Available in 26 countries, Daisy Rock Girl Guitar continues to seek new ways to reach females around the world and support their dreams of playing guitar. "The most important recognition through all the media buzz, the hype, the museum inductions, and the growth? The GUITARS. Daisy Rock's have always been really great playing and sounding guitars. That is where the movement meets the sustain, and the passion continues to grow, because the guitars are built extremely well, play fantastic, and sound amazing," commented Ciravolo. "A decade of Daisy's, and we've only just begun."

"T.A.M.I. Show" Set For DVD Release

One of the rarest rock events ever captured on film, the 1964 concert known as <em>The T.A.M.I. Show</em>, featuring performances by future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson &amp; The Miracles, the Supremes, and many others, will be officially released for the first time by Shout! Factory on March 23. <em>The T.A.M.I. Show Collector's Edition</em> includes bonus features including new commentary by director Steve Binder, original <em>The T.A.M.I. Show</em> radio spots, and a 20-page booklet with liner notes and rare photos and memorabilia.

<em>The T.A.M.I. Show</em> was filmed live at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium in 1964, a mere seven months after the Beatles appeared on "The Ed Sullivan Show" and introduced the swinging '60s. This legendary film has never been available on DVD and hasn't been seen in its entirety since it originally appeared in theaters, including its "world premiere" at 33 Los Angeles area theaters on November 14, 1964. Mastered from a new high-def transfer and restored to its original length, this complete version features the Beach Boys performances that were removed shortly after the film's initial theatrical run.

<em>The T.A.M.I. Show</em> is the first concert movie of the rock era, capturing such superstars as the Rolling Stones (with the late Brian Jones), James Brown, Chuck Berry, the Beach Boys, the Supremes, Marvin Gaye, the Miracles (featuring Smokey Robinson), and many other Motown and British Invasion acts in their early prime. Aside from the five rock groups, all the performers are backed by a band that we've now come to know as "the Wrecking Crew," famed for playing on all the Phil Spector-produced hits, and included future stars Glen Campbell and Leon Russell among others. Fanita James, Jean King, and future solo star Darlene Love, billed as The Blossoms, provide backing vocals.

This set is what music fans have been waiting for: the ultimate collector's edition of this long-unavailable landmark film. Critically acclaimed and long sought after, the film contains James Brown's legendary performance, which was a major influence on Michael Jackson, Prince, Mick Jagger, Sting, Beck and many others.

Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax will play together for the first time at this year's Sonisphere concerts in Poland and Czech Republic.

"People have been talking about these four bands playing together since 1984. That's 26 years of expectation!" said Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. "And the thing is, I believe not only will we live up to the expectations, we will shatter them! No other four bands as influential as the four of us have ever done this. As a fan, that's how big I feel this is."

The bands broke out of the underground thrash movement to dominate the metal world in the 1980s, selling millions of records and packing arenas across the globe. The metal giants have never before all shared the same stage, despite huge demand. But on June 16, Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax will take to the Sonisphere stage at Bemowo Airport, Poland, to make the dreams of headbangers the world over become a reality. A second Big Four appearance is planned for Sonisphere Czech Republic three days later, with more Sonisphere shows featuring the awesome combo to be announced in the coming days and weeks.

"This is a 'once-in-a-lifetime' opportunity for heavy metal fans to see the four greatest heavy metal bands in American history back together on one stage," concludes Megadeth main man Dave Mustaine. "If there are any heads left at the end of this festival that haven't banged, they don't belong there."

The Devil Wears Prada Joins Killswitch Engage for US Tour

The Devil Wears Prada, whose blistering signature sound combined with a Biblical brutality has made them "the next big thing," according to Absolute Punk, will join Killswitch Engage on their Winter U.S. tour as direct support beginning Thursday, February 4, 2010 in Boston, Massachusetts. Sweden's Dark Tranquility will open on all dates, and the tour will keep the threesome on the road over a six-week-plus period.

The Devil Wears Prada - vocalist Mike Hranica, guitarist/vocalist Jeremy DePoyster, guitarist Chris Rubey, bassist Andy Trick, keyboardist James Baney, and Daniel Williams on drums - is touring in support of their critically-acclaimed CD, With Roots Above and Branches Below (Ferret Records), which was released May 5, 2009. Two-thousand nine has proven to be a breakthrough year for the young Christian metalcore band that has developed a mainstream buzz and secular cred. Beginning with a 43-date, completely sold out headline tour this past Spring, TDWP went on to a Main Stage slot on the Vans Warped Tour, and is currently co-headlining (with All that Remains) the 27-date Napalm &amp; Noise tour, which wraps up December 21 in Allentown, PA. Over the past few months, TDWP also found themselves on the covers of Outburn, Alternative Press, HM and AMP, to name a few, and covers for at least two other national music magazines are set for early next year.
