Gibson FirebirdsGibson Firebirds

Say the words "custom color" to a collector or enthusiast and most will think of Fender. But Gibson had its own multicolored baby — the Firebird. Born in 1963 and put to rest in '69, the Firebird was Gibson's third full-line attempt at the solidbody market. While it did not do as well as the Les Paul or its younger brother, the SG, it was available in more variations.

While thought by some to be the poor cousin to the late-'50s Explorer, the differences are greater than the similarities. From '63 to '65, it was produced in the "reverse" style, with four variations — the I, III, V, and VI. Click to read more

The collaboration between Gibson and blues-rocker Joe Bonamassa began with a limited run of goldtop Les Pauls in 2009, followed by a more-affordable Studio version and another Custom Shop version, the latter sporting a beautiful flamed-maple top.

Gibson and Bonamassa have teamed up again to debut a tribute to his treasured '61 ES-335. With his guitar in-hand, the builders at Gibson whipped out their calipers and did their best to mine the magic of Joe's original. Click to read more

Team Josie is an American Cancer Society Relay for Life team sponsored by Vintage Guitar and is named in memory of Josie Alise Greenwood, who died in April of 2007, after being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). She was three years old. Josie was the daughter of VG webmaster Joe Greenwood and grand-niece of VG founder Alan Greenwood. To date, the team has raised more than $46,000 via pledges and an annual raffle of guitar-related gear. This year, the raffle will feature a Fender American Vintage '59 Stratocaster in Sonic Blue, with a rosewood fretboard, mint-green pickguard, alder body, and vintage-accurate pickups. It's valued at $2,300! The raffle winner will also receive a Fulltone Tube Tape Echovalued at $1,300, and a Poerava Wing Tip Strap valued at $400.
