History
The DY 85 was one of the top guitars during the Era in which it was manufactured. Yairi is well known for high quality guitars and this instrument is a perfect example of the craftsmanship that went into these guitars. This particular instrument was purchased in 1974 from a guitar shop in Ventura County California. After talking with Alvarez and matching serial numbers from the heel block, we determined that the guitar was manufactured in Japan in February of 74. The guitar has only been owned by one person, and it was kept in it's original case in a closet for the last 30-35 years.

I really hate to get rid of something so awesome. I hope there is someone out there that stumbles upon this that can really appreciate it. In my opinion it is one of the best sounding guitars, best feeling guitars, and honestly probably one of the few that are this old and in this great of condition. I would love to meet with you and let you check it out personally before you make me an offer. I hope it goes to a good home. If you are a tone junkie and can't stand being out of tune, this Alvarez will not disappoint you. With the holidays coming up, I look at this as a win-win because not only am I allowing someone to receive the gift of a lifetime, it will also help me out.
I am also posting this on a few guitar classified websites too. I don't really know how much to even expect for this. I have a takamine that I play every now and then, but this guitar is on a whole other level, and I think there are people out there that will be able to use it to its full potential. I am open to trades, but would rather just knock it out in a cash transaction. Either way though I am open to anything. I am tired of watching it weep in the corner longing to get played lol.
