These are fairly rare. They were sold to music stores in the 1950s in the same wholesale catalog as the novelty instruments like slide whistles and kazoos. There is some dispute among dealers today as to what material of which these are cast. Gruhn Guitars has one listed as being "cast aluminum", which was also my first impression, but Elderly Instruments has listed the few they've had as being "Chrome Plated Metal", which is possible given it seems a bit heavy for aluminum and the mirror finish is consistent with chrome.
