Marcus Miller Preps Album for August 7 Release

Marcus Miller to release new disc August 7.Renowned bassist Marcus Miller is set to release a new album, titled Renaissance, and undergo an extensive tour. Set for release August 7 on Concord Jazz, the disc includes eight original compositions with interpretations of songs by WAR, Janelle Monáe, The Jackson 5, Ivan Lins, and more.

Miller is also a proficient as a keyboardist, clarinetist/bass clarinetist. His résumé includes more than 500 recording credits on albums of various musical styles. As a composer of film music, Miller rose from writing the go-go party classic “Da Butt” for Spike Lee’s School Daze to becoming the go-to composer for 20-plus films – from the documentary 1 Love to the animated children’s fable The Trumpet and The Swan to the Eddie Murphy/Halle Berry piece, Boomerang.

As a producer, writer and player, he was the last primary collaborator of jazz legend Miles Davis, contributing the composition and album Tutu to the canon of contemporary jazz music. The breadth of Miller’s collaborative talents were showcased in his work with the late soul singer Luther Vandross, contributing to well over half of his albums as a producer, composer and/or player.
